There Is Something About Center City is a multi character story about those who live, love and work in Center City, Florida. Malcolm and Cinnamon Black, the stalwarts of the community are present in and supportive of the lives of those who come after them. The Felipes, Jeremy and Francine are integral characters who with The Blacks are creating opportunities and uplifting the new blood, including their daughter, Lasha and her fiancé Rashad who hold the future. But of course there are the interlopers and those who challenge the community fabric but are hunkered down with plans of their own, because There IS Something About Center City.
I love that this is an grown folks' story. Ok, I laugh not because it's funny but because my grown folks' comment reminds me of when my elders used to say that they were listening to grown folks' music. Anyway, this story may be fiction, but there is much truth and realism interwoven within the pages. I love how these couples love each other and how the ones who are experiencing a second chance at love don't mind showing that they are fearful, but hopeful. I believe that this author loves her readers by showing them that there is no shame in seeking counsel or in surrounding yourself with a trusted group of people to guide you.
Mrs. Vernon gives her readers hope. Your life is not over simply because you reach a certain age; in fact, it may be just beginning. Face your fears, mistakes, pain and sorrows so that you may be able to soar. This story also says that the dreams you have for yourself, your kids, or your spouse may not work, but don't hesitate to build on a new dream and don't allow the old dream to kill your spirit.
This author has created a second home for me on the pages of her books about this fictional African American City. I look forward to my visits.
Here we have our incredible Lasha being nurtured by the old guard. She has stepped up to the plate. And she and her man, Rashad are giving back, just like the Elders who support and mentor them.
It's a plan, for sure and it is working for the good of Center City. Lasha is ripe for teaching Joi how to be an authentic Black woman. And Liz is another interesting new character. But no spoilers! Read this really good book for yourself. It's a treat!
I still think Nathan has some tendencies that could get him in real danger with Malcolm Black. I'm just saying...
The Blacks are back doing great things, along with The Felipe’s! Lasha is growing her business proving her worth and Rashad is right there with her! Of course, “Black Man” has to once again let it be known that no man touches his Cinnamon! Then there is Joi, who has to learn the hard way and Linda, who’s coming into her own! I just love Center City and all of the characters and their intricacies! I definitely recommend this and all of the stories surrounding Center City and Malcolm and Cinnamon Black! Excellent Reading!! 💜💜
Great read. can't what become of the couples, especially Mikeal and Linda. And what happens to Joi and her mom. Lasha and Rashed getting married. Will they take over where Malcom and Cinnamon are concern.
I have read quite a few of Ms. Menchan books, but I have been trying for month, to find out a to what order her books should be read. I was reading one book when Aura (Cinnamon's daughter) and Jeremy Felipe where married! When did that happen, because last I read, she will remarrying MBII. I am so confused.
I absolutely love Center City, The Blacks, The Felipes, and all the sun characters! I truly look 👀 forward to reading about them and all that they have to offer! Most importantly, I love all the Gems 💎 you drop about black love, communities, life, love, happiness, and romance!
