Camp Clearwater is home to best friends Nate, Owen and Mercy. They practically grew up on the Starling River. But the summer they turn sixteen an incident forces the camp to close its doors. Mike Elliot, the river guide who taught the teens everything they know, is lost to the rapids. A tragic accident, everyone agrees. Except for Nate. Mike was the best kayaker he'd ever met. The smartest. The safest. He respected and loved the river, and as far as Nate is concerned, the river loved Mike back. If his instructor was pulled under by the Starling, then Nate is sure foul play was involved. To find the truth, Nate must face his greatest fears as he retraces Mike's final run through the Black Hole, the most treacherous waters on the Starling.

I absolutely loved this book. Everything about this book was immaculate. Some of my favorite character was Nate and Mike because they both are the main characters and really like each other. My favorite scene in the book was when nate got saved by mike when he was about to drown with the yellow rope. I really enjoyed the writing style of the book because there was a ton of dialogue. I would have enjoyed the book even more if the book was longer. The pace of the novel was extremely fast they got to the point almost off of the bat. Some connections of the book were when he rides the kayaks alot and I also ride kayaks to fish.

My favorite quote of the book was “I didn't say you were. I'm just saying things aren't simple around here.” Mike

I would definitely suggest the book because it was very interesting.

I'm an ELA teacher of 8th graders. Our librarian came in today and did a book tasting for my students. THIS was one of the books. What a fabulous, quick, and easy read that was attention-getting and attention-keeping. She asked the kids to come up with one word to describe their books. When I first began reading, the word was captivating. As I got a little further into the book, the word was suspicions. The third word was hunch as I thought I knew what was going on and who was involved. I was right. This would be a perfect book for kids who don't like long reads.

A high-stakes mystery/adventure for middle grade readers. Engaging characters fight the elements (both natural and man-made) for their very lives.

I think that boil line is a very good book and that it has a good story and mystery to it. It really grabbed my attention and was hard to put down. My favorite character was Nate because he wouldn't give up searching for Mike. He kept trying even when everything pointed to Mike being gone and he eventually found him. I think that it is a very good book and would recommend to someone looking for a quick but good read.
