I hope my debut thriller will take you on a ride filled with edge-of-your-seat excitement as you immerse yourself into the action, a feeling of deep compassion and true camaraderie as you fight alongside brave Polish stay-behind fighters, and... Well, let’s make it I hope you will really enjoy the book.
As an author (and thriller addict) I was very much influenced by Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther, Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne, Ian Fleming’s James Bond (of course!) and also the books by Mark Greaney, Olen Steinhauer, Len Deighton, John le Carré, Anthony Horowitz, Stieg Larsson, Jussi Adler-Olsen, and Volker Kutscher.
Some readers have compared my writing to the styles of Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, David Baldacci, and Daniel Silva.
Reviewers have commented very positively on the complexity of my characters, the realism of the scenario, the research I put into bringing alive the world of espionage, hybrid warfare, and geo-politics.
I would be very happy to also hear from you here, on my Facebook page, on Bookbub, or on Goodreads.
Thank you for your consideration,
Joseph

This is a well written spy thriller. The author has done superb research into this story that could actually be ripped out of today's headlines.

A bit futuristic, it takes a look at what would/could happen when Russia and the West go to war and NATO fails to do anything constructive.

Security Consultant Mark Sanders is a complex, but credible character. He's an everyday man ... one who has secrets from his past .... but faces a decision to either protect his family .... or his country.

It's got a little bit of everything for those who love spy thrillers .... war, espionage, spies, covert freedom fighters, and of course, politics.

There is a hint that a second book could be coming soon ....

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Fast pasted, with an interesting plot drawn from today’s headlines, this geo-political thriller is a good read. If you like spy craft, special forces and or geo-political thrillers, you will enjoy this book.

Outstanding Spy Thriller

This book takes the best parts of Jason Bourne, Jack Ryan and mixes them with the modern hi tech, cyber thrillers. The convergence of reality and fiction is very well written. I look forward to following Defiant in the future.

Joseph Carter is an author that should be followed. Although a first novel, Another Man's Freedom Fighter is a tense, page turning novel of war, cyber-espionage and the politics of NATO and Russia. The characters are realistic and the plot is not only possible but is a frighteningly believable scenario. I found the book very difficult to put down. I highly recommend it to thriller genre readers because you're not likely to be disappointed. There's a hint at a sequel at the end and I hope there is. I'd like to read more of Carter's work.

Couldn't put it down. This is a great book which reminded me a lot of Tom Clancy's style with a bit of Len Deighton (Game, Set, Match trilogy) in a mix.

Definitely worth reading for Clancy, Deighton, Kerr fans.

Mark Sanders, an IT security consultant just wants to live the quiet life in Berlin with his wife and daughter, but when a plan by the president of Poland to break the stranglehold the Russians have on the international coal market goes awry, and Russia invades the smaller country, Mark finds that he must make a choice. He can run away, or he can throw in his lot to help the brave, but outgunned Polish stay-behind forces fighting for their lives against Russian hit squads of spetsnaz. While his Polish-born wife feels for her former countrymen, all she wants is for her family to be safe. Mark knows, though, that running away will not guarantee their safety, so he joins the fight.

Another Man’s Freedom Fighter by Joseph Carter is a day-by-day, sometimes moment-by-moment account of the conflict between Russia and Poland, with the specter of NATO and the US being drawn into what could become a global struggle ever on the horizon. While the kinetic battles are well done, it is the struggle taking place in cyber space and on social media that is the most compelling element of this story.

While I found the ending a bit conclusive, I still enjoyed the ride. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I give it three and a half stars.

This ambitious thriller has the bones of a good story, but didn't do so well on the fleshing out part. Sure, I can see where all the Clancy comparisons come from, but unfortunately this book also suffers from all the usual Clancy problems: Too unfocussed and longwinded, a writing style that is all telling, no showing (and occasionally drowns the reader in unnecessarily detailed descriptions of military hardware), and flat, underdeveloped characters. It took me all of two chapters (and they're pretty short chapters, too) to develop a severe disliking for the protagonist and his political opinions, which he feels the need to express in every other scene he's in, so I wasn't at all disappointed to find that we don't actually spend all that much time with him. Also, the author seems to have some sort of beef with pretty much every single person and party involved in German politics and an obsession with Apple products that expresses itself in every character in this book who interacts with any technology using multiple products of that company - to the point where I found myself wondering if he's getting paid for every name drop.

if you are a fan of classical Tom Clancy military/spy/ political thriller, or if you enjoy authors like CB Samet or Jordan Vezina, you should really enjoy this debut thriller - and bonus! you can read it now on KU!

fictional actors with some hot skills meet a cunning blend of factual history and contemporary events, blended with the world of the fictional character.

Not much of a stretch of the imagination to see other ways in which Russian aggressiveness against so called independent states like the Ukraine could take a turn, and Poland could fall again.

Insightful political and economic analyses meet fast paced action, shooting drama, and family just trying to look out for their people, and a man just trying to survive

a great read!

I received an advance copy from Booksprout. I read the book on Kindle Unlimited.

I am a big fan, as you might guess, of similar thriller/action authors, and hope to read more from this new favorite!

A hero is torn between what's right and what he needs to do, political implications of what could happen in the invent of war, espionage and more. This story definitely could have Mark Sanders is a security consultant and wants to live a low-key life with his family. However, with one bad decision by the Polish President begins the fast-paced cyber/spy/international thriller.

You can see the author took the time to do his research. You can see the parallels between the state of international relations and this fictional world. I think he does a good job of developing the characters and the story. While I am not a fan of this genre, I can appreciate the attention to detail the author gave his audience. I have to agree with a few other reviewers that if you like Tom Clancy, you will enjoy this thriller. But don't take my word for it, please get your copy, judge for yourself and don't forget to support the author by leaving a review.

Good effort

The author's political bias, hackers, and oh yes a war. The writing is stilted and reads like a machine translation presented unedited
