About the author

John Henry York Briggs, M.A., F.R.Hist.Soc. is Senior Research Fellow in Church History, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Birmingham. He was formerly the Director of the Centre for Baptist History and Heritage at Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford.

Briggs is a Research Professor in Baptist History at International Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a past chairman of the Baptist World Alliance's Baptist History and Heritage Commission (1990-95). He was editor of The Baptist Quarterly between 1985-2008.
