This history of P.E.O., and international educational philanthropic organization for women, was published to celebrate the organization's 2019 sesquicentennial.
An approachable and well-documented look at the history of PEO as an organization. I especially enjoyed the biographies of the seven founders since we only really ever hear their stories in a few lines at Founders' Day. It was heartening to hear their full stories and also to hear how they saw the need for PEO to grow and evolve as the world around them changed.
This commemorative history documents P.E.O. from its beginning as a collegiate society in Iowa to today with over 200,000 members in chapters across the U.S. and Canada. P.E.O. promotes women's education through its projects: loans, grants, and scholarships. Cottey College, a 4-year liberal arts college in Missouri, is owned and operated by P.E.O.
This was a wonderful updated history of P.E.O. As a member of a local chapter, I certainly appreciate all of the women who held steadfast and grew this organization into all 50 states and parts of Canada.
It is an honor to be part of this organization and I am humbled by how little I knew prior to reading this book. Thank you to the 150th celebration book committee for organizing all this material.
