When Red Remaley signed up for the US Navy at age sixteen, little did he know that the next few years would shape the rest of his life. A chance encounter in the Pacific theater of World War II determined Red’s future, and from then on, he knew a higher power was always watching over him, his Silent Partner on his life’s journey. Over the next seventy-five years, this power guides Red through each hardship and every joy as he finds his ultimate calling. With humor and faith, Red paints an inspiring picture of family, love, and devotion as he navigates life’s challenges. "One Man’s Journey with a Silent Partner" is not only a testament to a man’s faith, but to the certainty that any obstacle can be overcome.
Charles “Red” Remaley served in the Pacific in WWII, aboard USS LST-1024. My father also served on an LST, but in Europe. This is what initially drew me to this book.
With each chapter, I felt like I was sitting next to the author, with him telling me his story in a pleasant, engaging voice. He begins with his time serving in the US Navy and the travels and experiences of his ship. Before the invasion at Leyte, a chance encounter with a solider onboard leads his life in a direction he couldn’t have predicted or imagined.
As I read, long past the war years and into the author’s life, I enjoyed learning how one of the Greatest Generation made a life with so little to start off with. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and felt like I knew the author personally by the last chapter. Full of love, sincerity, and reflections on a life well lived, with help from the ever present “silent partner,” this is an inspiring and heartfelt book for anyone interested in how to live a good life.
