Pineapple Cove is just like any other island town. Well, except for one thing... It has a secret. One that Kai and Delphi must uncover if they hope to save their town from a terrible threat. Will Kai and Delphi uncover the secret in time to save their town?
Poseidon’s Storm Blaster is an enchanting chapter book for kids with themes of bravery, kindness, and friendship. If you like mysterious islands, reimagined mythology, and sea animal side kicks, then you’ll love Marina Bowman’s imaginative adventure.
I loved the setting which is so far from the norm, and I am sure kids will enjoy reading of people and placed that are new to them. The story moved fast, and it was quite interesting. My only gripe was that the Storm Blaster was a gun! It didn't fit in with the mythological feel to the whole legend.
Last summer, we got the Poseidon Storm Blaster water gun for our kiddos to play with, and they loved it. Apparently, there are some story books that go along with it as well! We just read this brand new adventure book as a family, and my kids all enjoyed it very much. The biggest fans were my six-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son, but even my teenagers (who are not the intended audience) thought it was very cute.
Praise: the characters are relatable and well-developed for a children's storybook, there are a number of cute animal companions that my kiddos really liked (especially Finley!), the story has plenty of action/adventure, the illustrations are lovely, and there are plenty of valuable lessons taught (not judging people by their appearances, apologizing after making a mistake, and the value of teamwork, among others). I also saw at the end of the story that another book is planned for release at a later date!
Criticism: no actual criticism, but be aware that this book is a bit longer than the average picture book and doesn't work well for very young children to enjoy in one sitting. I have a two-year-old son and four-year-old daughter, and neither of them made it through the entire story before wandering away. Luckily, the book is divided in to chapters, so it is very easy to find a stopping place and know that you can come back to the story later. Preschoolers aren't really the intended audience anyway; we just have a big family and sometimes my "very littles" get carried along with whatever the big kids are doing.
A baby dolphin in trouble. It’s little Kai to the rescue. After saving it, the dolphin dropped something from his mouth: a gold trident necklace.
Then the danger was announced: a sea monster was headed to Pineapple Cove. Oh no!
Kai, along with a friend and trusty sea lion, make it a mission to find the Protector of the Cove. But the Protector, instead, sends Kai on the task to find Poseidon’s Storm Blaster to defeat the monster and protect the Cove.
Filled with cute illustrations, this was a fun read!
My kids, ages 9 and 12, both read this book in one sitting. (I was surprised because it was longer than I expected.) After she finished it, my daughter came to me after asking if there was a sequel. Hopefully soon I can tell her that there is! Very cute story, uplifting and the illustrations are super-fun.
I thoroughly enjoy reading these type of children books, for they always teach my children an important life lesson in a simple and easy way that they can understand. It's important for children today to have morals, and the only way that they will obtain them is if they are taught from a young age.
This book has been read and reread countless times. Great as a read aloud for ages 5-7 range and as a ‘read on their own’ for ages up to age twelve, depending on reading level. Kai, Delphi, Aunt Cora, and even Sammy and Blue are well-loved. The mystery woven throughout is well-done. Highly recommend.
This ebook was nice. I enjoyed it and the colorful illustrations as one tried to find hidden pineapples in the story was a cute stunt. I think kids and adults would love the story especially together.
This book is the first in a series and it is such a wonderful adventure. We read this as a family and all of my children enjoyed it very much. The coloring pages and the discussion questions were a nice bonus.
Young adults (as in 10-year olds), will enjoy this book. It is well-written with beautiful illustrations. There is an audio-book embedded inside which is fun to play &blisten to on long car trips.
This book is a page turner! Beautiful illustrations give the reader a detailed sense of the world that Marina Bowman has created. I loved that the protagonist and his sidekick defeated "the enemy" in a kind, empathetic way. For a limited time the kindle version comes with a professionally narrated audiobook available on the author’s website for free. I look forward to reading the second book in this series when it becomes available.
I loved reading Poseidon's Storm Blaster to my kids(ages 6 and 9). It was full of adventure! We all couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I also loved the lessons of kindness and bravery that the main characters showed. Definitely check this book out!!
