I’ve opened doors in Afghan villages into rooms filled with hostiles.
I’ve walked in with bullets flying.
Yet here I am staring at this closed door, unable to open it, because I know what’s on the other side...
My wife, and a monster I can’t save her from.
Megan
I knew I was his the moment he punched out my blind date.
All these years, all this hurt later, I still am.
I just don’t know if that’s going to be enough anymore. Not now, not while I’m staring down the scariest enemy, right here at home, and I'm still all by myself.
When the dust settles, we’re both going to have to decide if what we have is still worth the fight.
The Fight For Home is the second book in the Way Home Series. With its own couple and HEA it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel, but to see more of these characters and their beginnings you can start with book one, All The Way Home.
This book is recommended for readers 18+ for adult language, content and topics.
Kim Mills intended to grow up to be a psychologist with a loft apartment and 3 cats. Instead she dropped out of college and married a teenage soldier and had babies. No one ever asks her to speak on career day.
After working and volunteering in Social Services for years, Kim began writing in 2011 on what is now the Canadian military family blog She is Fierce. Somehow, that led her here. No one is more surprised than she is.
You can find Kim with the childhood sweetheart she's been married to for over 15 years, along with her 3 kids and their border collie Trooper, making home wherever the army sends them.

This story was raw, real, and laced with pain. It had hurt, despair, and strength. All of those overlayed everything, but our characters also had joy, hope, and happiness, but they didn’t focus on those, and that became what tripped them up. There were reasons, real reasons, for every emotion they felt, and at the core of it all was the love they had for each other. That bound them together when everything spiralled apart. That kept them coming back together when they only wanted to stay away. That is what caused them to stop and assess what was happening, over what they were seeing, and feeling, and solidified their commitment to each other
Well Kim Mills, Canadian Military Spouse and Author of the Way Home Series, has done it again. Truly an amazing story here in The Fight For Home (The Way Home #2). Once again I had a very difficult time putting down my kindle after picking it up to begin this story. Everything seems so real , perhaps because what happens in this book is so real that Kim captures her audience by telling the story of what truly happens in real life. Honestly, sometimes I hear people say, man, those military wives have it so easy, but you know what, until you actually put yourself in our shoes, you know nothing about what the military life entails. From moving all over the country, to giving up your jobs, to raising a family by yourself , not making it home in time to say goodbye to loved ones because you are living so far away, leaving your family and friends behind, to start something new that you have no idea how long you will be there for. Never take life for granted, sometimes your military spouse is all you have aside from the friends you meet along the way who end up being your family in the end. This story, Mark and Megan's story truly is so real, that it truly depicts what the military life is all about. See for yourself, sit down with your kindle or a copy of Kim's book and tell us other readers what you think.
Stayed up late to finish in one night! It's grabs you that much... I've been waiting for this book to come out for some time, and once I got it, I stayed up until I was done! Having had the opportunity to read a brief synopsis on the author's Facebook page, I knew it was going to leave me ugly crying at least once. Boy was I right! Kim has a talent for creating characters that are so incredibly real and true to life; they could be your next door neighbours. I love how the story is full of the passion, sorrow, frustration and regret that are so much a part of a real marriage and partnership. I am one of those people who will often yell at characters on TV, but this is the first time I yelled at the characters in a book! Fantastic read, plan to go back and re-read the first book, All the Way Home, just because I'm not quite ready to let these characters go yet!
If readers want to know what it's like to be in a military marriage, here is a good example of how difficult it can be. I am privileged to know the author via the internet, as we both served for several years with a ministry to encourage military wives.
Kim Mills is an Army wife in Canada who is an amazing wife and mom, supporting her husband, her family, and their military community. She writes compelling stories that show the ins and outs of romance, life, and resilience in military marriage.
This book might be difficult for some to read, yet I think it's an important work from someone who knows and understands the community of those who protect and support by serving in the armed forces.
This book was fantastic. So many feels throughout the entire thing. I love the characters in these books, how they are family by choice, not by blood, and would do anything for one another. Being married to a soldier myself, so many things hit home with these stories, and so many emotions are brought forth. I’d definitely recommend this book.
An absolute must read!! Kim has done it again, what an incredible novel. No matter how different your life is to Megan and Mark's you'll find something that hits close to home. The emotions and characters are so real, and the reflection it provides is thought provoking. Can't wait to read her next book in the series!!
I read this book quickly. I didn't identify with the characters as much but I found their storey compelling. There is so much honesty and compassion in these difficult life stories, it's hard to put the book down.
The story definitely sucked me in, I think I read the whole book in one day, but as a military spouse it hot a little too close to home to be thoroughly enjoyable. 😉
I love this story. I love how Kim Mills writes them from a different starting point. And how their love brings them back to each other. I want to hear more from them.

Another fantastic read in a series that speaks so much truth. I don’t think I have ever laughed, cried and related to a series of characters as much as I have with these ones. Kim Mills, has masterfully captured every aspect of military life and Canadian to boot!
You don’t want to miss this book or any so far the in the series! Now, I will have to impatiently wait for the next one to be released!
Absolutely love this entire series! I’ve read them all a few times now! Having been the military wife who is left behind, I could really relate to this story.
