“And sometimes it’s the victory of the villain in a story that makes you happy. “ Bogged down by the pressures of a daily hospital routine, 28-year-old cancer-stricken Riddhi's life suddenly picks up pace when she starts receiving mysterious letters from an anonymous sender, who means bloody business. Riddhi finds herself in the fast lane when a renowned top cop is found murdered as mentioned in one of the letters. It is only when CBI officer Kabir Rana gets involved in solving the case, does he realize there is more to Riddhi than meets the eye. When Kabir starts decoding secret clues that would lead him to the murderer, what he comes across shakes him to the core.
I'll be blatantly honest that I've eyed on this book for a quite a long time. And when the author informed me about the book being FREE on Kindle; I at once rushed to get it. So, almost after long three years I've read a crime thriller authored by an Indian writer. I've started reading this book sceptically because I've had some horrible experience with an eminent writer who commenced the story greatly but ended up hideously. Anyway, Samruddhi Chandak certainly did a commendable job. • The story was undoubtedly strong and gripping. • The murder plots were GREATLY woven. • The clues were quite intricately written for any sane brain to decode. • And the story was short and quick.
Now, what I didn't like were :
• Despite of having such an amazing storyline, the author has RUSHED to complete it. • The "Suspense" which is the prime factor of a thriller story was absolutely missing. I felt like before my heart could pound, the author has already served me the next part on a platter. • The characterisation was dull. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. • And the world building could've been better. It wasn't clear.
Nevertheless, I have full confidence on the author that she can spin out more wonders. Also, she's very very sweet as when I nudged her with some dubious questions, she answered me calmly. 🙈
Wish to read more from her. And the book is definitely recommend for anyone who wishes to read a short, quick story. ❤️✨
I went straight into this book without knowing anything. I just knew that it was a thriller and the protagonist's name was Riddhi. Maybe because of that, I enjoyed the book even more. So I don't want to give you guys any spoilery hints on this. Just know that this story involves A girl named Riddhi who is suffering from cancer and having only last two years left in her life, she starts receiving anonymous letters and there begins the story. You see? Letters can be hell romantic but sometimes be bloody thrilling. The latter one plays an important role here. The only thing that could have been better is the development of characters and detailed description of what's happening around in a little slow pace. Those things would have made it a complete 5 star read. The climax was unpredictable and awesome. It's been long since I finished reading books in one sitting until this. It was such an un-put-downable thriller. And I definitely recommend it to you guys.
'Closet of Lies' is a crime thriller. Riddhi, a cancer patient start receiving letters every morning from an unknown person. These letters contain several clues about a specific event that took place years ago threatening her of her life. Everything mentioned in letters follows up to be true in the present. Later an inspector named Jai Rao Dongre is murdered and Kabir, a CBI officer is in charge of his death. I would say that this book has an interesting plot. The story is plotted very well by the author. And the codes hidden in the letters are fantastic to decipher. I enjoyed reading this very short book on murder mystery and finding out the clues hidden behind these letters. The climax was solved well. But I think the writing could have been improved a bit to make it more thrilling and gripping. The writing seemed to be vague and too simple that I obviously wouldn't prefer for a thriller.
“Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed from rooftops.”
Riddhi is a doctor, suffering from cancer and has only 2 years to live. She has lost her parents and her only relative is Granny living next to her. When she finally accepts her fate and starts living her life, she receives a letter. A letter which says that she now only has seven days to live and she will be killed on the seventh day. The letter also tells her that an inspector is going to be killed and the same happens. But when the inspector's murder case goes to Kabir, CBI officer, he realises that there is more to the case. Will Kabir be able to solve this mysterious case?
First of all, the plot is very interesting and intriguing. The story is so gripping that you cannot stop reading.
The letters and the suspense around them is well maintained in the first half. However, second half is a bit predictable.
The writing style is good but a few errors here and there disrupt the flow.
The cover is beautiful. What an amazing book with amazing plot and characterization. The blurb of the book describes the content of the book well. The book is quite unique and described very well by the author. Suspense part keeps a reader hooked to the novel. What I loved is the way it is written and executed. The language and words are quite simple enough to connect with the readers. Looking forward to read more from the Author.
When I picked up the book, I thought it will be of some romantic fiction genre, but surprisingly it turned out completely different. It has quite different plot. The protagonist of the story is Riddhi she was suffering from Cancer and she has little amount of time to live and one day she started receiving anonymous letters. That part developed nail biting suspense and makes you want to read more and finish the book as soon as possible. Unexpected end. The book is written simple and easily understandable language. There are lots of unexpected twists and turns in the story that holds your attention till the end. Ending was completely unpredictable. It’s a good one.
It is a fast-paced thriller. Once you start, you won't stop and will read until the end. It's a short book, so the story is one where it takes a straight path without getting into unnecessary details, but it doesn't mean there are no twists and turns. When you are halfway through the book, you might start thinking from where you started it and it would land somewhere where you are predicting but in the meanwhile, a different story is waiting for you to relate.
If you don't want to read something heavy or want to take a break, you can definitely pick this up and be satisfied because it will be finished in a jiffy. Though I didn't enjoy the ending as much as I enjoyed the first 70% of the book, yet it will leave you wondering toward the end.
I would like to thank the author for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

The story revolves around 28 year old Riddhi . She was diagnosed with cancer and had about 2 years remaining in her life. She was alone and her only ray of hope and happiness to live was the Granny who lived next door. She had a routine and monotonous life until she receives a letter and her whole world turns upside down. She soon realizes her every action is closely watched by someone and the letter usually contained the matters happened and are going to happen which actually turned out to be true. The Author has done full justice with the genre of the book. It is fast paced and intriguing. Will keep the reader hooked to it till the end. What i loved most is everything is explained in detail at the end which made me completely satisfied. As we read through the book we get to know the Title of the book "Closet of Lies" is an appropriate one. The puzzles given in every letter was a plus . It was cleverly created . The incidents are written in timelines and the whole sequence of events happen within a week. The language is lucid .The plot had a very unexpected twists and turns which was engaging and intense. I am sure majority of the readers may not be able to guess the writer of those mysterious letters(and that's pretty cool ). Overall its a very good suspense/mystery novel. Recommended!
The Closet of Lies . Author: Samruddhi Chandak Publisher: Papertowns Publishers Genre: Crime, Thriller, Suspense Pages: 124 . "Whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed from rooftops." . The story starts with Riddhi, who is a 28 years old cancer patient, an ex-doctor and a orphan, living her usual life which basically involved taking heavy doses of medicines, resting and feeling unhappy about her situation. Did I tell you that she only had two years to live? The only thing which gives her happiness and ignites in her a desire to live is Granny. Granny is her neighbour who she has known for the past seven years, and is like a mother-figure to Riddhi. She is a source of positivity for her whereas Riddhi is the only person Granny can call family as hers has forgotten her for a very long time. But both have a secret. A secret they have never shared with anyone, not even with each other, a past they think has been forgotten and buried deep inside their closet of lies that they had made for themselves. And this secret starts to unravel after Riddhi starts recieving the letters. But who was sending these threatening and mysterious letters to Riddhi? And what happens when a top renowned cop is murdered as mentioned in the letters? How is Riddhi going to deal with this mysterious person or will her secret come out and expose her? To know that, you'll have to read this thrilling book for yourself. . Whenever I read a suspense or a mystery novel, I switch on my Alastor Moody mode(if you don't know who he is, you should take exile and go live in mountains). And I did the same for this book as well. Doubting every character, bringing different scenarioes together & analysing them to solve the puzzle. If you read the book, and I bet, at one time or another you would delude yourself thinking that you got the pieces or that the story was getting predictable. Well, it happened with me, and honestly even with all my paranoid ideas, I couldn't figure out the answer untill it revealed itself at the end. . "And sometimes its the victory of the villian in the story that makes you happy." . And indeed it did. I have to give it to the author for the way she has woven the plot to create such an amazing story. Connecting the unknown pasts of the main characters together and having a completely different story hidden in the coded clues itself was a masterstroke from her. One can genuinely appreciate the effort the author had put into making the clues(my favourites ones were the one with a 'Breaking Bad' reference and the chess sequence one). . The language and the narration were also simple and easy to understand. . One thing I both liked and disliked about the book was that in some parts of the story, there was not much description and details in them. This was a good thing in some places where we were spared with boring and unnecessary details, musings or conversations. This kept the things spicy & exiting for me. And I think it keeps the readers hooked till the end. However, there were also a few parts which I would have loved reading with a few more details and emotions. For ex. How was Kabir Rana's appereance, what did riddhi's house looked like, its interior or its size. Or how Riddhi suddenly decided to not be anxious anymore and face the problem head on. . I loved reading this book and I would recommend it to everyone. . Rating: 4/5
Closet of lies by Samruddhi Chandak, is a mystery thriller revolving around seven mysterious letters. If you love mystery and thriller, you are bound to fall in love with this book. It held my interest from the very first page. I was so absorbed in the story that I finished it in one sitting. I myself have not read many books in this genre but this book has definitely perked my interest and mystery and thriller novels. It is the story of a 28 year old doctor, Riddhi, who has retired early because she got struck by Cancer. Being an orphan, Riddhi has no family to go to but, Granny, her old neighbor is the closest to her and loves Riddhi as her own daughter. The only thing Riddhi wants to do now is spend her remaining days with Granny peacefully. But Riddhi is not as innocent as she seems. She has some skeletons hidden in her closet which she thinks no one knows about. Riddhi’s world is changed forever when the first letter arrives one morning. The letters are sent by someone whom Riddhi doesn’t know, but who seems to know Riddhi very well. The letter comes everyday in the morning for seven consecutive days. Each letter contains a clue of some kind and a prediction, including three murders, one of them being Riddhi’s own. When the first murder (of Dongre, a police inspector) takes places, Riddhi quickly understands that the anonymous sender of the letters mean serious business and is not playing around. When CBI officer Kabir Rana starts investigating the case, he comes to know about the mysterious letters Riddhi is getting and how one of them predicted Dongre’s death, he is certain that Riddhi is herself the sender of the letters and therefore the killer. But everything changes when Granny is found murdered. Kabir knows that whatever he knows about Riddhi is just like the tip of an iceberg. As I said, this was new genre for me and therefore, very refreshing. The plot was intriguing and connected the readers to the book very nicely. Moreover, the writing styles was explicit and clear which made the book easy to read and understand, but not quite enough to solve the suspense before the end. A thing which I am not too fond about though is that I felt that the characters were not given enough dimensions and depth. I have mentioned this in my previous reviews too, that characters are the most important part for me in a book. Hence it is very important for me to understand the characters and feel connected to them. Kabir was the only character whom I could connect to and I really liked his character. I could have liked Riddhi’s character, only she was not actually her! Also, for me it was a little weird that Navin started noticing differences in Riddhi, who was neither that close to Riddhi, nor did he spend much time with her (at least not while the events were going on). Granny and Raghav on the other hand were not even a little bit suspicious about her, though there were both the closest people to Riddhi in the whole world. Other than these two points, I liked the book very much. Before I started reading this book, I was concerned about the small number of pages of it. But the length of the book turned out to be absolutely perfect. The plot was really amazing. I felt like I was watching an amazing murder mystery movie while reading it. The writer has done a tremendous job in planting all the clues and hints throughout the book. I would definitely recommend this book to all the thriller and mystery lovers out there!
"When someone follows the chain of Precedence, we should follow the path of ignorance" -Samruddhi Chandak, Closet of lies. About the book: Bogged down by the pressures of daily hospital routine, 28-year-old cancer patient Riddhi's life suddenly picks up the pace when she starts receiving mysterious letters from an anonymous sender, who means bloody business. I really must say this reminded me of Indian CID series use to be on the television. The way we use to just keep on repeating one episode after the other, to find the murderer and not to move from our sofa, without blinking an eye, having our snacks and, looking at the gestures made by ACP Pradyumann!!! Indians will well relate to what I am trying to code here!!! This book is just like that. Raving you the characters and leaving you with the idea of what could be the possible next move and what could be not. A very fast read and a short story. Good for mystery lovers. The intriguing part of the book was the idea of letters. Really, the Author knows how to make the readers hooked to the story. The title mainly depicts the life of the characters were all made of lies, so the title of the book justifies the story well. Characters go up fast living their lives one after the other day! Mainly, the clues. I appreciate the efforts Author has taken to make up the clues in the letters. Really thoughtful!!! The combination of science and doctor left me impressed. Me, being from the Chemical field, loved it. I will obviously not reveal them here :D And, the Breaking Bad connection to make up the clues, Very cool!!! I must say the book is very well-written with easy narration. The only thing I missed was the description. When we go towards the Idea of reading the book, we want to live those characters to some extent which is usually done by the description of the characters and environment created. Like, I want to know more how Riddhi looked! Is Kabir Rana handsome! has a nice officer build-up! How big was the house of Riddhi! What was the paint of the walls of her room! What was her past! Did Riddhi and Raghav had some more history where one of them was left heart-broken! Eventually, the case was going to die, how did he predict that Kabir will go after the clues he had planted just to expose himself. I also missed a glimpse of the murderer which would have been an epilogue of the book. I would like to recommend this book to all. Even if you are not into reading, I bet this book will stand an exception on your bookshelf. Book review- 5/5
I found 'Closet of Lies' to be a tad bit different from the other books of this genre. Twenty-eight-year-old Riddhi is a former doctor but also a cancer patient. I mean, how often do we come across the main character who already had her head in the guillotine just as we begin the novel. It only gets worse as we go further into the story.
Out of the blue, she starts to receive mysterious letters - the source of which she couldn't ascertain. Had it been any other letter she would've dismissed it nonchalantly. But in this case, they were more like death threats. What made the perpetrator more dangerous was the fact that he seemed to know Riddhi inside out -Her interests, friends circle, past, present, and also the future.
She tries to make sense of this whole conundrum but she wasn't able to arrive at anything. But little did she know that the moment she opened the letters she had triggered a chain of events that would eventually lead to her death.
Will she be able to give 'death' a slip? or Will she find out the person behind this before time runs out for her?
We, readers, are tasked with the job of finding that out.
Murders, Mysteries, Plot Twists, Blood, Adultery, Revenge - this book has got it all. Got to hand it over to Samruddhi Chandak for her gutsy attempt. There is never a dull moment or a slack in the pace. Everything happens so fast that at times you'd be left gasping for air. Utmost attention is required to follow the intricately woven plot. It would keep you guessing till the very end and the turn of events were far from being predictable. The major plot twist in the second half of the book rattled my senses and I was left shell shocked.
There is a big scope of improvement. Had the book been more polished, it would've made a huge impact. But even at its current state, it's not too shabby either. There might be a flaw or two here and there. But I chose to oversee it. I felt that it was unfair to scrutinize a debutante's work with such depth.
Overall, it was a wonderfully crafted racy pacey thriller.
I'd recommend you to read it and support the author. She has great potential and with your support, I feel that she can churn out even more badass novels like this one.
Dr Riddhi is fed up of her boring and tiring routine of undergoing treatment for Cancer and being all alone in her flat with only a friendly neighboring Granny to look after her. Suddenly Riddhi starts receiving letters from an unknown person predicting her daily activities, future moves and soon they turn into threatening her with a countdown to her death in next few days.
The letters arrive one per day, first predicting a close friend slipping into coma and when this comes true, Riddhi stars taking these letters seriously. The next comes with death warning for a police official and though Riddhi warns him in advance, her letter’s story is not taken seriously. Only after the inspector indeed dies and the case is handed to CBI officer Kabir, does the puzzle starts getting solved and a suspect is finally caught. What is the final truth, are there more lies in the closet to be unearthed and will Kabir succeed in finding more than what meets the eye, forms the rest of the story.
The story starts on a high note from the moment Riddhi receives the first letter, each letter having a note for her, some having future predictions of deaths and an unrelated clue left by the sender. While the first half of the book has enough action and goes at a high pace, the second half is even more racy with more clues cracked and more truths revealed. Each letter has some intelligent clues and each character related to the other in mysterious ways.
The writer had a solid plot at hand, with some interesting characters, and multiple back stories connecting them. The writer also succeeds in holding the mystery till the end, while the reader keeps guessing the identity of the culprit. However, there are places where the writer faltered like CBI taking over a normal case within a day, a smart CBI officer not able to understand few simple clues while they are right infront of him. If some of these loop holes can be ignored, then this book makes for a brilliant thriller with very interesting twists.
Pick this one for a racy thriller which is sure to entertain till the end.
Riddhi's parents died in an accident. Her only relative is her uncle who sends her money on monthly basis but apart from that there is no communication. The only person whom she has, as a family, is Granny who lives opposite of her apartment. Riddhi is suffering from cancer and she has only two more years of her life. But who hates her so much that they doesn't even want to let her live 2 years of her life.
Suddenly Riddhi starts receiving mysterious letters. These letters predicts her future. And everything is happening exact as described in the letters. One of the letters predict the murder of an inspector and soon the inspector dies.
Who is behind all these? Is he/she someone very close to her? Will Riddhi be able to find or she will die before her due date as predicted in the letters?
We all love and want to be the hero but don't you think that without a villain a hero can't be a hero. Is Riddhi a hero or a villain of this story? Well for that you have to read the book. But one thing is for sure that this story is about a villain and not a hero.
Review-
The title of the book totally suits the story. The plot of the story is very interesting. It hooks you till the end.
Though it is a suspense thriller but the length of the book is short. Author has very aptly write the story with crisp and proper narration.
Characterisation is on point. Every character whether small or big has a definite reason to be in the story.
Language is very easy to read. Though at the end where all the suspense enfolds I thought it was slightly confusing but if you read it twice you will understand it.
I love the riddles in those letters. At first even I thought it was of no use but they were a very important part of the story.
I love how author has maintained the suspense throughout the book. At many places I thought that I have solve the mystery. I know who is the murderer. But yes, proudly I am going to say I was totally wrong.
It is a must read for all the suspense lovers. It is short, crisp, gripping and entertaining. Definitely recommending to all.

'The Closet of Lies' was my very first read of Samruddhi Chandak. The prologue introduces us to Riddhi who has cancer and was living the last two years of her life. The novel describes as ".....all her hopes crashed like the ocean waves and heart sunk deeper." Riddhi's only source of solace was her Granny. The prelude mainly painted a poignant picture, and little did I know of the things that were yet to come.
After an emotional start, I was impressed with how the novel kick starts with its first chapter. The mysterious letter that Riddhi received served as the catalyst. She keeps getting a letter for the next seven days. Each message comes with a set of complex clues and horrifying predictions. The content in each letter left me intrigued.
The novel is fast-paced and the writing was crisp and fluid. I found the names of the specific characters like 'Jai Rao Dongre,' 'Chirag,' and 'Sawant' to be quirky. The words like 'Kichidi,' 'Salman Khan movies,' 'Didi,' and 'Saab' intertwined with an amazing crime plot gave me the vibes of watching a blockbuster Bollywood movie. My favorite character was Kabir Rana, who was in charge of solving the case. I admired the complexity of the puzzles the writer has developed but slightly felt off-put in the manner it was deciphered. Additionally, certain actions of the anonymous sender got me indeterminate as to whether the acts were carried out alone or with external help.
Overall, the book was a definite page turner and could be savored in single sitting. It is recommended for all sorts of readers out there. I'm looking forward to reading more of Samruddhi's works.

My rating: 3.5/5 Closet of Lies by Samruddhi Chandak
"And sometimes it’s the victory of the villain in a story that makes you happy" - the villain was sure to win in this case!
The story is about a 28-year-old cancer stricken girl struggling between her life and health all on her own. With no family background, she is as closely attached to a next door old woman who as well is staying alone. The life of the girl turns upside down when she starts receiving letters from some stranger telling her about her own whereabouts and mentioning about killings of seven people. She tries to get help from the police but to no avail. But soon after a death, she gets contacted by one of the CBI officer who then starts decoding those letters and it leads to a series of unexpected plots.
I completed this in one sitting of an hour and a half. It was good and entertaining and more than anything kept me hooked till the end. The author has done good job with the narration.
However, there were a few things which in my opinion could have been better. Like the time when the CBI officer tries to decode those letters, he gets ideas from his sister-in-law and niece. Those ideas were great, but the narration seemed a lot fake. It was as if planted purposefully. I know it's fiction and that's how it is supposed to be, but still there was something very plain and not at all enjoyable.
Overall, I was quite amazed by the author's work. Recommended to people looking for some light thriller/mystery to read.
We all have come across a book or movie which has captivated us till the end. We all have that list of that movies or books in our mind. Mostly that movie or book are of the crime thriller genre. I would like to suggest you that you add the book, “Closet of Lies” in that list. This book is one of the best in the crime thriller genre. Closet of Lies is written by Samruddhi Chandak. The story is of a 28 years old cancer patient Riddhi. One day Riddhi starts getting letters from anonymous sender. The letters were way mysterious, as it has something to do with Riddhi’s past which was only known to Riddhi only. While Riddhi can understand what was happening, a well-known cop was murder and the murder will happen was mentioned in one of letters. The murder case was handed to a CBI officer Kabir Rana. While solving the murder case, he come to know that there is more than what meets the eye. Will Kabir Rana catch the main culprit? And what is the Riddhi’s past, and what is the relation of Riddhi’s past to the murder? The plot is amazing. As the story progress, one can find that there are many twists and turns. Favourite quote: Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed from rooftops.
With an aim to just read the first chapter to get the feel of the book, I started reading the book but I wasn't able to put it down and read it in one go!
What I liked: 1. Writing style is nothing fancy. It's sharp, precise, crisp and to the point.
2. No unnecessary build up, suspense is there from the very beginning which hooks you to the story.
3. Twists and turns are ever present and compels you keep turning page after page without fail.
4. The story is intricately woven in a way that you're never able to guess neither the murderer nor where it is leading and what's the big reveal that's waiting for you in the end. To pull that off successfully is quite the feat if you ask me.
What I didn't like: 1. Seriously, I can't think of anything apart from the fact that some conversations between the characters are a bit abrupt and impersonal.
It's a must read for you all if you're fan of this genre. Even if you're not I suggest you give this one a try!
Samruddhi Chandak has created a master-piece and is a gem waiting for you to discover.
I took a steady start as I knew it was a crime murder mystery and there is a lot to unfold but when I entered deep into the story it was unbearable to put my eyes off it. CLOSET OF LIES begins with Riddhi who is a cancer-stricken patient and an ex-doctor waiting for her slow death. Her life takes a turn of events when one day she receives a mystery-letter from an unknown person predicting her death in 7 days and murder of a local cop. She tries her best to know who is behind all this but feels disappointed after all good efforts. Lastly, Inspector Kabir from CBI takes the case in his hands and follows a series of clues to solve the case successfully. The story ends on a very good note with a last letter unrevelling the truth behind all the murders and mystery. The book evinces best writing skills of the author being this one her first novel and it sets her apart as an honest storyteller. I would like to congratulate Samruddhi for her good efforts in the making of this book and I wish for it's huge successes. Plus, I am now waiting for another mystery thriller from her very soon. For me the book was like watching one of the old-crime-thriller movie where you don't know what would happen next...
How scared you will be, if you receive a letter that predicts your future everyday, precisely. Riddhi, receives such mysterious letters accurately mentioning her past that contains her dark secrets and her future, precisely the day she is going to die. The story interlaces in itself a couple of murders that is part of the whole mystery why this mysterious person is sending such threatening letters.
The story is written in a very not-so-fancy way. For a mystery-thriller, the language is too simple and the story is uni-directional. On one hand, I felt that this is the only blemish of the book while from the other perspective this is the beauty of it. Fast paced incidences, no unnecessary build-up, and twists and turns at every page kept me hooked up till the end. Although I found there were some instances in between the story especially while the CBI officer decodes the mysterious codes seemed to be forced & fake. The characters had room to be developed with a more tight storyline.
Overall it is a very good attempt by Samruddhi Chandak and I would definitely want to see more of her work. Give it a shot if you have a couple of hours to kill and are in mood of light, super quick thriller read.
Riddhi receives strange letters and gets caught in the game of the sender. Letters have a deeper meaning. The first letter addressed for her, stick-on notes as clue or threat and the main letters predicted a few things that would eventually turn out to be true. Interesting and easy read. Unique characterization. Each Character is brilliantly connected to the story. A gripping story from the first chapter until the end of the book. Time is of the essence in this book. There is a time frame to book the culprit. As deadlines draw near, we are forced to put on our thinking cap, pay attention to the story and jot down the possibilities to crack the case. It's an apt cover. Every suspect convincingly appears to be lying in the case which has deeper secrets to reveal. You can't put the book down and will be curious to know what happens next. Brilliant plot well executed. You can experience thrills, shocks, exciting turns, incredible twists, and surprising revelation while reading the book. Witty clues and how it's decoded deserves a special mention. When you think you have understood the climax of the story, there is always something more to it. Kudos to the debut author who blows the readers mind and keeps you on the edge.
Closet of Lies has a really interesting plot and stays true to it's blurb and genre. The represention isn't too accurate and seems vague sometimes but I appreciate the effort.
The story is about a cancer-striken girl named Riddhi who starts receiving anonymous mystery letters about murders. She tries her level best to get to the root of the letters but fails miserably. Later Kabir, a CBI officer takes overs the search and unravels the mystery which leaves him flabbergasted. Read and find out the reason behind it.
Samruddhi Chandak has done a wonderful job. The story is written well with just a few mistakes here and there but nothing too distracting. The suspense was predictable to an extent but had the intended effect nonetheless. Some loose ties weren't tied and that disappointed me. The writing style was easy but not intriguing enough. I think the plot was the only good thing apart from the author's ability to keep you on edge with the build up.
I enjoyed reading it but I have read better mystery books and even though the book had potential, it could've been better.
Closet of Lies' as the name suggests is full of twists and turns. I picked up this book after reading the blurb. To be honest, I was sceptical about the story. But, it turned out to be an absolute page-turner. I liked the way how characters are portrayed and connected. Which I think is the best part of the story. When you think that the book is over, there comes a big twist which keeps you on the edge. I liked the way how the author has woven the story. However, at certain points, I felt that there was a bit of discontinuity in the story. The scene changes abruptly without further ado. This is both plus and minus of the story. Also, I felt that the dealings by CBI were a bit amateurish. Maybe it's only my point of view. Other than these, it's a well-woven thriller which keeps you at the edge. Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. I would recommend this book for all the thriller lovers!
Rating: Character development - 4/5 Plot development - 4.5/5 Quality of writing - 3.5/5 Pace of the story - 5/5 Thought-Provoking - 3.5/5 Overall - 4.1/5
Closet of lies by Samruddhi chandek, is a gripping page turner.
The 28 year old cancer stricken Riddhi's life suddenly picks up pace when she starts receiving mysterious letters from an anonymous sense, who means bloody business. When a renowned cop is found murdered in the movie theater as mentioned in one of the letter she founds herself in a cobwebs of mystery from the past.
It is only when CBI officer Kabir Rana gets involved in solving the case, does he realize there is more to Riddhi than meets the eye. Kabir starts decoding secret clues that would lead him to the murderer.
But, will he be able to solve the mystery before its too late? Will he be able to decide the meaning behind the letters?
Closet of lies is a fast paced suspense thriller. It is a quick read. The author have presented the story in a way to keep readers hooked up with the story till the end. The twist though, not something anyone can guess. The words have provided perfect sense of anticipation till the end.
I really enjoyed reading this book and it's a treat for suspense thriller lovers.
Closet of lies is story of a 26 year old physiotherapist Riddhi. Riddhi is diagnosed with cancer that grows day by day. She has no one to look after her except a granny from the neighborhood. To her utter surprise she one day receives threats from an unknown person. Before she believes them things fall into a circle. Riddhi tries to explain the things happening to the police, but they take it for granted until they hear the death of their superior officer. When things pick up pace and the police get an idea of the entire scene, Riddhi is dead.
The author tries to surprise the readers with few twits.
The narration is easily readable and keeps you going.
But at the end, the storyline wasn't strong enough for the book to be called a thriller.
It could have been written more interesting.
The point where Riddhi receives a letter and fears about the operation theatre from the past is left untouched at the end.
