In my books, I balance scientific information and observations with a touch of mystery and magic. In an effort to support local culture and entrepreneurship, my books are illustrated by artists living in the countries that the kids visit."
“Animal lovers and young adventurers will appreciate the short chapters, sibling banter, and easy-to-read blocks of text, as well as […] black-and-white pen-and-ink illustrations.” – Kirkus Reviews

This super cute chapter book series introduces kids to new destinations around the globe. In this installment, the reader is transported to Machu Picchu in Peru to help the Cook Family solve the mystery of the disappearance of llamas from the area.
With simple language and frequent illustrations, this book is ideal for reader's age six to ten-years-old, especially animal lovers. The eight-year-old Cook twins, Fynn and Celia, are memorable and unique characters, and their ten-year-old sister, Lily, is equally delightful.

Llamas. Who DOESN'T love llamas? This book with its colorful cover had me in a lot of excitement from the very start! It's hard to find a book that keeps young readers engaged, interested and eager to continue, but this story definitely draws you in right from the start. Funny but not ridiculous, colorful but not too "shout-y" - plus there are so many things to learn and look up after finishing it!

Finding the lost llamas was so much fun! This second book in the Wonder World Kids series is incredible. A welcome change from other popular unimaginative chapter book series. My daughter especially loved the cute llamas in the pictures! It is outstanding that this series not only challenges young readers with new vocabulary but also teaches about different countries and animals. A must read!

Kid Lit Exchange Partner: Thank you to KLE and to Noreaster Press for the review copy.
Second book in the Wonder World Kids series (some references to the first, but this can be a standalone), Llamas is told from the POV of eight-year-old Finn, whose parents are globe-trotting veterinarian detectives. In this volume, the family goes to Machu Picchu to find why the iconic llamas have departed - I guess beautiful Inca ruins aren't cutesy enough for tourist selfies?
The kids crack the case while giving the adults credit, which is always a plus.
Unfortunately, the sub-plot of releasing cuyes (guinea pigs) from the kitchen into the wild to be safe (!!!), was short-sighted and dangerous. It's something I'd discuss with a child before giving them this book.
Packed with fun facts about the Incas and tourism and definitely a creative alternative to a standard info-dense non fiction picture book. However, I disagree with the classification that this is a chapter book or for 6-9 year olds; the text is too complex. Even the kids are magniloquent.
Give to a child who is both very intelligent and very interested in Machu Picchu, or who would nerd out over Marx's use of a different local illustrator for each Wonder World Kids adventure.
