Zoe loves living at her uncle's rescue zoo because there's always something exciting going on. And Zoe also has an amazing secret... She can actually TALK to the animals!
Max the meerkat loves to dig tunnels and go exploring, and so do his baby brothers and sisters! With the big treasure hunt coming up, can Zoe find a way to keep the messy meerkat family out of trouble?
This one required a bit more suspension of disbelief (after seeing the bite warning signs on the meerkat enclosure at the zoo, Violet and I were very skeptical about the idea of putting one on a lead, leaving it unsupervised, and offering a meerkat cuddle as a prize! Also, here’s my pet peeve about this series: why doesn’t Great Uncle Horace ever take the animals back to the wild after they are healed??? “Mom, it’s just make believe,” Violet says, “It’s a different world.” 😆 Of course, she’s right.). Anyhow, Violet was still throughly hooked and wanting me to read this book during any spare moment, so still a thumbs up from us.

I like Zoe because she helped the lost meerkat to be found. She helped set the treasure hunt out too. I like Max the meerkat because he helped his siblings.
Read to my 6 year old, he declared it to be 5 stars. Only recently learned Amelia Cobb isn't a real person and I suspect some of the variations in Zoe's behavior have to do with different writers behind the scenes.
Zoe lives in a rescue zoo that is owned by her great-uncle. She loves playing with all the animals and she has a big secret … she can actually talk to them!
Zoe is extremely excited when her great-uncle brings a new family of meerkats to the zoo and she wastes no time in introducing them to all the other animals. But when one of them tunnels out of the enclosure and ruins the zoo scavenger hunt event, it is up to Zoe to save the day!
Strengths Animal lovers will enjoy reading about Zoe and her relationships with the animals. This book is full of meerkat mischief that will engage and amuse young readers. The book also offers some information about meerkat behaviour, making this book educational and interesting
Although a complete series, the Zoe’s Rescue Zoo books do not need to be read in order, making this book suitable for reluctant readers.
Weaknesses The story line is not predictable or consistent in pacing. Although not an issue for some, this may confuse younger or less confident readers and reduce their enjoyment of the story.
Summary I can see younger readers enjoying this book, particularly animal lovers. I am keen to read more of the series before deciding whether to purchase these books for my school library.
