This book represents an atlas of surgical techniques in the treatment of diseases of the gallbladder and the pancreas. Modern techniques of diagnostic and interventisdonal endoscopy are included and described in detail. Besides standard procedures in the surgery of the gallbladder and the biliary tree, special aspects such as surgery in central bile duct carcinomas are demonstrated. In a comparable manner modern procedures in surgery of benign and malign diseases of the pancreas are described. Each chapter begins with a brief survey of indications, special diagnostic aspects and patient preparation. This survey is followed by a description of the position of the patient and a scheme of possible approaches for surgery. The standard surgical proceudres are described followed by demonstrations of special techniques for special and difficult situations. At the end of each chapter principal complications and possible techniques to handle them are described briefly.
