117 DAYS ~ A Memoir
117 Days is the firsthand account of nineteen-year-old draftee, Private First Class Mike Hardy, as he fought on the front lines of Vietnam in 1969. Decades after the war, Mike sat down with his eldest daughter, Marie, and recorded those experiences. Together, they wrote Mike's incredible story of war, luck, and hope.

This book is a 4.2 star book...
Definitely a good read and quick. Most of the stories are captivating and makes you want to continue reading, I read it in one afternoon.
I understand this is a memoir and not a historical novel but as I was reading, I wanted it to be more like a historical novel. It has all the story lines that would make a good historical novel, but as it is it leaves too many questions for me to rate it a 5 star book.
Many of the people who have rated the book are family or close friends...I am not. Based on his experience I think Mike is the kind of guy that I would feel blessed to call friend. Mike, thanks for your service and for your story. Your life has been a role model that should be embraced, especially by many growing up today...but unfortunately will never come to pass, they are too caught up in being who others want them to be.
I know how poorly soldiers were treated on their return from Vietnam and I believe segments of our society continues the demeaning behavior today. This is not the America that I remember as a child and I am often offended at what my generation has made this country over the last 50 years. No more civility, just a lot of noise, opinions and political partisanship.
I enjoyed the read and will recommend to others.

This book is written from the perspective of a 19 year old young man who was drafted and went to Vietnam. His story is well told and is well worth your time to read. I have read a few books done by veterans of the Vietnam war but, this ranks as one of the best. As a veteran of 15 years myself who was lucky enough not to have to go to any war I consider him a hero.

This is a very good book! The story is told in a no nonsense way without a lot of shop talk, just a plain story that made you laugh and cry and know that life in a war zone sucks! Mike and Marie did a nice job telling the story. I hope it can help others to claim their similar stories!

An excellent read! I might be a bit biased though as my Uncle and Cousin wrote this book 😀 It's not very often that a soldier will truly open up about their experience. Thank you for your service Uncle Mike!
