"Deadly Days" is billed as "a gripping detective thriller" but it just doesn't quite live up to its billing. That said, it's a fairly solid, conventional and slightly old-fashioned thriller.
Someone is randomly killing people in California, then the killings widen and it becomes clear that there is more than one killer.
P.I. Logan Stone is hired by the father of a missing young woman to find her and it soon becomes apparent that she may be one of the victims.
The rail leads to a mysterious cult, led by the deranged Master.
It is at this point that it all becomes slightly ridiculous. There's no real reason for the killings except that the Master likes killing, on top of which his followers all seem amateurs despite their impressive kill rate.
The book would have benefited from a tighter editing, some words are slightly out of place in their setting and the occasional paragraph is a bit clunky.
