I must admit I didn't make it very far in this book. This has some good insight for a brand new family starting out, but not much for an establish family. Also I felt like it was dragging a lot. I found myself dreading picking it up. I would recommend this book only for someone just starting a family.
Back when I was still in a MOPS group, the moms who read this book kept saying we all needed to read it. I should have considered the source. My particular chapter of MOPS happened to be a particularly friendly group of women who always looked at me funny when I would bring up what the Bible says about the topic at hand.
It should have come as no surprise, then, that this particular book had some nice fluffy religious talk without a whole lot of meat. Designed, perhaps, to make us all feel good about mothering, but lacking in practical application or any real consideration of Biblical teaching.
It started out slow, but it's pace picked up along the way. I was able to pull some good helpful information out of it and I'm looking forward to ordering some of the books she recommeneded to help teach my kids about prayer. I already implemented praying over my son before bed and it has been such a wonderful blessing and bond between us. She had great ideas on how to bring more fun into our household and I appreciated her stories of a "full circle" family.
Liked this more than I expected. Nothing revolutionary and kind of fluffy/cliche at times... but some fun new ideas for family time and good questions about creating family. Liked the image of peaches... "buy a whole bushel at peach time b/c when peach season is over you don't want to regret not getting more." Likened to each stage of kiddos to soak up the time that's unique about each stage w/o regrets.
I'd recommend actually purchasing this book and keeping it as a reference. I don't agree with everything she says—but it's close! She has wonderful ideas for families, and I think it would read differently for moms of different stages. I'm planning to revisit this book when my kids are older.
wish i had read this when i received it, back when my kids were quite small, N. was not even around yet. it's so important to begin your family with a solid foundation of love and faith!
