Eighteen Moons: Before 'Diary of a Gay Dad'

Rate this book
Eighteen Moons is the extraordinary and moving story of Andi and John and how they set out to have the family they longed for. Not many people noticed the end of a multibillion-pound industry that touched many, many thousands of lives... but this devoted couple lived through the final wave of International Surrogacy in both India and Thailand, then finally (before it had barely begun) in Nepal on the roof of the world.

In their quest to become fathers, they come up against seemingly impossible challenges. From the very start they are overwhelmed with both bureaucracy and prejudice. The story of how this very special family comes together is filled with heartache and frustration, determination and courage. It’s a story full of humour, human frailty and, above all their determination to become the loving family they are today.

I have never imagined that this book turned out to be so good, it's a heartfelt and moving story of Andi and John a gay couple who want to have his own family, they adopted two dogs but Andi always thought about his dad's saying that if you give me 2-3 grandchildren it didn't matter for me that you are gay or not so he always longing for a family.
He got to know about surrogacy in India and their quest for children took them across the world and brought them up against seemingly impossible challenges. But as the whims of officials and government directives thwarted their every move and sent them on a wild adventure which took them from India to Thailand and on to Nepal.
This book based on true story so there are so many moments which shows you how government rules and policies make their lives miserable and they can't take their own child back to UK till 8 months . How surrogate mother blackmailed them and took money all the time.
But there are so many good things how they both loved their children and tried each and everything to get them back.
How a father took care of twin girls single handedly it is really very amazing and interesting to read.
Book is mainly based in India so its good to know what Andi thought about my country. The name that they given to their twin girls Tara and Amritsar is just so beautiful and it also shows how pure and beautiful their heart is!

One thing I wanted to mention here there is nothing like in this book which anyone can't read.Anyone can read this book it's an very amazing story which keeps you hooked till the end and even I've not dared to skip a single word .

A Must Read!

I found this author on Instagram and boy am I glad. This sorry intrigued me and from the moment I started reading it, I was gripped.

This is the best biography I have ever read. I experienced all emotions and just wanted to keep reading.

What opened my eyes the must was the couple's surrogacy struggle, I had never given must thought to this subject matter and I was truly in awe of these two wonderful men, stopping at nothing to get the family they wanted and deserved.

This story is a remarkable journey of two gay Dad's and I can't recommend it enough. I read engrossed, feeling like I was right there with the author.

Well written and I hope to see more from this author. Thank you for telling your story.

Humorous, heart breaking at times, but ultimately hopeful, the book is an incredible read. if you didn't know better, you'd think it was actual fiction. Both Andi and John are determined to have a family. The story follows their fight to become dads.

The story is very dramatic, but ultimately hopeful, in that whatever was thrown at them, they fought it and soldiered on. I have nothing but admiration for them. Andi Webb has made the book interesting and covered a plethora of emotions in his story. As I was reading I had to admire the guys' patience and tenacity. I wish them both luck, and all the best.

I have very mixed feelings about this book to be honest. I liked the characters and their determination, but the language and flow made it feel forced at times. I think some more editing would go a long way into making it more inviting, but as it is, it is an enjoyable story.
The theme of the book is very interesting and the topic I think is very important so kudos to the author for the attempt.
3,5 stars from me.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written, and I laughed and cried with Andi and John during their trials and tribulations in an effort to become fathers. It was an interesting read too, on a subject that you don't hear much about. I'm full of admiration at their persistence, and so happy that they are now a loving family. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a beautiful jounrey of Andi and John and how they manage to surpass all the hurdles to become a famoly of 7!! Family is everything, this story shows what a person can do and how they struggle to be parents. The determination and the love depicted here is amazing.
