Charles stops in Sacramento to see how his construction is going and is shocked to find everything at a standstill, and all of his workers had been sent home due to an injunction filed by the Attorney General. Charles goes to the state capital and visits with the Governor and resolves the issue. The Attorney General is angered and hires a man to kill Charles. Divine intervention prevents Charles from being murdered. Charles stops in Denver and asks his jockeys to bring the horses East for the big race in Baltimore. At the Preakness Stakes, Charles meets the Prince of Saudi Arabia that has brought a horse that the Prince claims to be the champion of Saudi Arabia and wants to race Charles’ horses. Charles uncovers a hidden plot to destroy his name in the racing world. Charles is asked by his old friend, Colonel Markland to help him locate a man that is planning a mass killing of Washington’s elite, and destroy the man. Charles travels to New Hampshire to avenge the deaths of two of his railroad workers. The chase ends in a deadly shoot out.
Another great read by WL COX all of his books are good reading and I have enjoyed all the books he has written I don't think he has written a bad book I've read all of his books and enjoyed all of them I would recmend all of his books they are all excellent reading I have really enjoyed Hunt US Marshall I can't wait for the next one of both series!!!! If you enjoy reading Westerners Books I think you should read them all because I know that you would enjoy reading them.So I think you should read them all because I'm sure you're going to enjoy all of them

Being from PG County the chapters about John Surratt interested me. Pretty close to what we were taught in school! I was curious as to see if Charles was going to kill him, knowing he lived into the 1900'
