Leading As Sons and Daughters: Discover the Joy of Empowering Others
Some of us have been leading for years. Some of us would not consider ourselves leaders. The truth is all of us have influence on the people around us. The vital question for all of us to ask is, how are we going to use the influence we have? In Leading as Sons and Daughters, Wendy Mann shares openly from her own experience and journey in leadership. She unpacks how we can learn to lead out of our identity as dearly loved sons and daughters of God, and the impact this has on those we invest in. What could churches, families and workplaces look like if we used our influence to champion the people around us? Learn to lead as a son or daughter and discover the joy of empowering others.

Loved this book. Loads of truth that is helpful for any leader. Peppered with very grounded, practical questions to help apply it to my context. Wendy’s chapter on speaking the truth in love particularly hit me, as did those on leading without a mask and redefining success to be obedience. Very useful book for me as a newish leader, wanting to grow. Thank you Wendy.

‘Leading as Sons & Daughters’ by Wendy Mann gets 3.5 Stars 🌟 Its main focus is on how to lead and empower others from a place of knowing your identity in Christ. The book has some good practical tips alongside personal reflections, insights and lessons learnt which are shared in an honest and helpful manner. Some chapters feel a little longer than are needed and I sometimes struggled a little with her writing style however it’s still worth a read and the chapter on Culture facilitating Growth is really good. (See quote below)
“Our aim is to see people transformed in their hearts and thinking so that cultural behaviours become the natural outworking of internal change. This will only happen if we first pursue change in our own lives. What does the culture in your own heart look like? Are you more secure in your identity today than you were last year? Are you feeling more empowered to do what God has called you to, or have you shrunk back? The more freedom you have personally, the more you will be able to lead others into freedom. Your internal culture will impact the culture you create around you.”

Although I'm not a leader in my church, I have taken a lot from this book. I have a better understanding of being a daughter of God and how my relationship with Him can affect my life in a good way if I appreciate the love and grace He gives me as well as the training Jesus left as part of His legacy. It also helps me understand people that lead and has given me confidence to ask for feedback rather than sit back, feeling paranoid that I must be doing badly because there has been none.
Heartily recommend this book to all - whether leaders or not!
