Pianist Tess Hillcrest's disillusionment about love and marriage has been solidified after watching her parents’ divorce. Seeing her ideal couple disintegrate has strengthened her natural inclination to tread carefully in her own love life. Since a car accident almost took her life eighteen months ago, nothing is more repellent to Tess than irresponsible lawbreakers. When she trusts a man with her body and soul, he'll be respectable, law-abiding, well-educated, and responsible. Dylan Maxwell has served nine months for drunk driving and assault and carries the secret of his arrest close to his chest. It's not the first time Dylan's been on the wrong side of the law, but he's committed to putting his life back together, hoping to manoeuvre his way back into his band and focus on his music. When Tess and Dylan meet one January night in Edinburgh, instant attraction is swiftly displaced by judgment. When their paths cross again, can they find enough common ground to act on the unquestionable pull between them? And will it be enough to survive the truth of their pasts? A stand-alone novel, Worth The Time is the fourth story in the English Rose series which follows a group of authentic English women on their complicated romantic journeys. Please note this book is written and edited in British English and contains sex scenes.
Holly James was born and raised with her three siblings in Norfolk, England. She packed her bags at eighteen to spend the next four years at university. She lived in Newcastle, Birmingham, London, France, and Spain before settling in beautiful New Zealand.
Her daily loves are good coffee, writing, and her family—the order depending on what kind of day she’s having.
As with the earlier books in the series, I really enjoyed this latest installment, the story of frustratingly judgmental Tess, daughter of Sam from the first book, and the lovely, self-sacrificing Dylan, Jenny's son from book 3. We finally find out why Dylan went to jail, and see the relationship forming with Tess that was hinted at in the third book. At times I wanted to slap Tess for being so quick to judge, but she was redeemed in the end and I cannot wait to see who the couple is in the next book.
I really enjoyed this. We first met Dylan in the previous book in the series (Worth More) but as a secondary character, and I was intrigued by him then. I was very pleased to find he had a book of his own.
Dylan is definitely more than the sum of his parts. Ex-con. Tattoos. Drunk driving conviction. Leather jacket. Guitarist. Motorbike. It's easy to see why Tess shies away from him, but it's delightful to see how she realises her prejudices, and asks herself if he is more. I highly recommend the series.
I absolutely loved this series! Our world is going through so much with this terrible Corona virus. I am an out of work Caregiver, from Pennsylvania, and I picked up my kindle and found this series, it made me laugh, cry, Google some English words, and I couldn't get through them fast enough. Now I wish I had read a little slower!
