Ned Melcombe's thoughts are occupied by Lewis, his first and only love. But with the outbreak of the Civil War Ned becomes a soldier in Cromwell's army, only to discover that Lewis has chosen to fight as one of the King's men, a decision that may keep them apart forever.
I really, really wanted to like this. But it's terrible. If you don't remotely care about historical inaccuracy then maybe read it for the comedy value.
We all know whose pseudonym this is, so no need to go on about that. Even for a smutty breeches-ripper, this book is pretty bad in its over-the-top sex scenes. I wouldn't call it erotica, yet it's not poorly-written. As a campy historical pulp, hm, I think it has a certain charm. There is romance, and even tenderness, and not much attention to trivialities like historical accuracy. Perhaps all that purple prose is an intentional parody of the romance genre. That said, I only made it through a couple of chapters, and may be a bit generous in my stars, given the author's identity.
