Flame of Sunset

Jeff Kennett had spent two hard years bringing 2,000 head of cattle from Texas to Sacramento. His men had climbed mountains, swum rivers and crossed deserts, fought Indians and renegades and he was determined they would not be licked so near the end of their trail to Frisco. Headed by Colonel Nate Sharpe, father of the girl Jeff loves, ruthless men fight Kennett every mile of the way. Before the last of the herd reaches the Golden Gate, savage gunplay brings an exciting climax to this unusual, fast-moving western.

First published in 1948, 'Flame of Sunset' is a well written and very traditional Western novel set against a Texas cattleman's efforts to drive around 2,000 head of cattle to California and from there to sell them at premium rates. With the expected mix of heroes, heroines and snarling villains, along with a high body count this makes for a terrific and tightly plotted adventure.
