Secrets have cloaked Renee Dutten's entire existence. Placed in the New York foster care system as an infant, she was moved from family to family until graduation. With a bright future as a hairstylist in a posh salon, fate steps in and pulls the rug out from under her again. An eyewitness to a mob hit, the Federal government becomes her guardian. From foster care to witness protection, with only a semblance of normalcy in between, she now has a higher degree of madness with a new identity as Chloe Barnard, a new address in Ohio, and nothing familiar to cling to. The Feds tuck her away in a campground for the summer, with orders for her to maintain a low profile. Chloe's attempt to be reclusive falls apart right away when she meets Aidan Gerrod. The attraction is strong and her willpower is weak. Wanting him with every speck of her being, puts them both in jeopardy and becomes Chloe's biggest struggle yet.
Former Air Force Master Sergeant and ex-Intel government contractor, Aidan Gerrod is unhappy that physical injuries sidelined his military career and a short romance with his Intel boss cost him that job too. Thinking a campground is the perfect location to commune with nature, find serenity and regain his balance until he figures out where to go next, he gets just the opposite. His gorgeous neighbor grabs his attention and stirs a lot of drama.
When trouble from their pasts comes knocking, will Chloe and Aidan face it together? Or will they be forced to go their separate ways to stay alive?

When I heard Jan Romes released a new book I was probably one of the first to grab it off Amazon! I put all my other books aside to read it, and once I started, I couldn't put it down. I walked around the house with my phone in my hand sneaking snippets, and even ordered out for dinner tonight! If that's not an enthralling story I don't know what it is. Chloe doesn't have it easy. She's on the lam from mobsters thanks to the US Government, who aren't real great at keeping a low profile. She immediately catches the attention of her neighbor, Aidan, and sparks fly. She knows better than to get involved with anyone, but his kindness, and hazel eyes, are too much for her to resist now that she's alone in the world.
All told, I loved this romantic suspense story for it's simplicity in the complicated. In the end, whether we're on the run or we're comfortable in our surroundings, we need other people to survive. Chloe proved that point many times over. She needed to feel normal, loved, and safe, few of which she felt, unless she was with Aidan. The cast of secondary characters were comical and kept the story fresh and funny in typical Jan Romes style. I especially liked how she brought Chloe's past together into her present in a surprising manner. If you're looking for dark suspense you won't find it here, but if you're looking for a relatively clean romance (only a few cuss words and kissing, no sex) then you've come to the right place. If you love well written romance that will make you fall in love with the characters as you read then you'll love Tucked Away!
This book will fit the bill for those who are not fans of sappy romances but want a love story filled with action and intrigue! Wonderfully diverse characters will pull you into the story from the very start!
Just a few chapters in I didn't want to put the book down, and read it in record time!
So far every book I've read by this author has not disappointed! She brings every scene to life with her vivid descriptions, and she has a wonderful sense of humor! Her writing style is easy to read and the storylines are unique!
This is the fifth book by Jan Romes that I’ve read, and possibly my favorite. The story intrigued me from the start as New Yorker Renee Dutten witnesses a mob hit, enters Witness Protection, and moves into a colorful camper, as Chloe Barnard, at a campground in Ohio. Having grown up in foster care, Chloe has little to leave behind, but she has a whole lot ahead of her … all brand new … and all of it scary.
Quickly and unexpectedly, she finds herself falling for Aiden Gerrod, but her world is topsy-turvy and she now has to remember that she has a new identity and she must act in accord with it. Of course, that’s easier said than done. But it’s not just her safety at risk, but Aiden’s, too.
There are lots of colorful people in Chloe’s new neighborhood (the campground) and some odd goings-on. She isn’t sure who to trust or who might be watching her, but she’s sure of one thing: she’s falling in love … and it’s mutual … and the pull is magnetic!
I’d read less than half of the book and finding a break in my day, I picked it up to read for another half hour. That didn’t work. It was such a great story that I read all the way to the very end. I won’t give anything away, but the author did a fantastic job of building suspense with twists, turns, and surprises. And of course, romance.
A really delightful read! I loved these characters and wouldn't be unhappy if the author decided to write a sequel.
Renee Dutten was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Witness to a mob hit she is put in witness protection. She is now Chloe Barnard a quirky gal living in Camper in Ohio. Her neighbor is Aidan Gerrod ex-military man trying to regain a life he can enjoy. The two become friends then things get a bit complicated as their pasts start to catch up with them.
A fast paced original story with with well developed likable characters. Chloe/Renee is very likable she is uncertain who to trust. Aiden has personal demons he is fighting as well, but falls for Chloe. Filled with twists, turns, suspense and romance, Tucked Away has all the "feels". Overall I enjoyed this story and feel others will (enjoy it) as well. I highly recommend to all.
Tucked Away by Jan Romes is an intriguing story of Chloe whose normal life is snatched away because she happens to be at a wrong place at the wrong time and has been placed in federal witness protection. She loses her identity, her friends, her job and is tucked away in a campground. She has been told to keep a low profile yet she makes some new friends and really likes Aidan but he has promised himself to keep away from women.
It is Romes’ style of writing that makes this book so captivating. Her amusing dialogues, her quirky characters and her wit adds a lot of charm to the story. At the same time, she keeps you on tenterhooks with ever-increasing threat to Chloe’s life and Aidan’s guessing game. Though light-hearted, the suspense blends well into the story to keep the speculation alive.
Fast-paced, without any unnecessary details, this book has all the right ingredients for a fabulous read. I really enjoyed it.
Renee Dutten, AKA Chloe Barnard, ex-New Yorker and present camper-chick is hiding from the Mob. Her life is endangered, and she must lie low – probably forever.
Aidan Gerrod, ex-air force sergeant and Intel government contractor, has ended his career because of injuries and an ill-fated romance. He’s frustrated but has withdrawn to the same campground to regroup and find out what to do next.
When they meet, inevitably – being neighbours, sparks fly.
Tucked Away poses many questions about entering witness protection. How does it influence somebody, who has been free to live their life? What to do if their cover gets busted? Who can they trust? Presumably nobody.
Jan Romes works her usual magic with insight and style. Her characters leap off the pages, and her quirky humour helps lighten a difficult theme. There is still space for endearing dialogue. The plot arc drives the reader forward until the last page has been devoured.
Chloe gets ‘tucked away’ by the feds in a campground but she doesn’t stick to their rules. She is supposed to keep a low profile, change her image, and they even ask her to get body piercings, to boot.
The man, Adian, situated next to her camper, at first doesn’t want to be bothered with woman but later feels the need to help Chloe. Aiden and Chloe’s chemistry is potent and humorous.
Every book I have read by Jan Romes is so imaginative, fast-paced, witty, and humorous and this one is really great.
Convincing discourse, detailed vivid storytelling, and a nonstop fun plot, drive the reader to follow the characters to the last page. An actual upbeat really good story.
I was in the mood for intrigue and Author Romes delivered. Relatable characters draw you into the story which I read cover to cover for hours. Loved the use of humor to move the story on at a cracking pace. Thoroughly enjoy this author's heart warming and intriguing stories by Author Jude Haste
I found this novel to have a great pace and interesting ideas involved with witness protection programs. Add in the mob who don't care who they take out, and one hunky guy living next door, and end up with a great premise for this story.
