This Soul'd World: The Rise of Consciousness

Rate this book
If you’re curious about life, if you wonder about the limits of the universe and your place within in it, if you've contemplated the inevitability of your mortality but are not convinced by organised religion, this book might be for you... This Soul’d World is a unique, sci-fi themed journey-novel about the invention of a new gateway into other other dimensions that will challenge the understanding of the material one we call home, and challenge those who benefit from keeping it that way. Is life as we know it just a biological accident playing out on a random rock in the universe? Are we meant to eat, work, sleep, repeat, or is there a deeper meaning? Strap your imagination in for an adventure of consciousness that will make you wonder, as you are pulled down alternate timelines and exposed to the mystery between. FULL This is the awakening of space-time scientist, Callison Trebla, who has a destiny calling from an alternate universe. Upon retirement from his life-long employer, Quanta Laboratories, Callison steals equipment to complete an as-yet unproven time-portal; and he thinks he's got away with it... until the day he makes it work. The company come knocking, revealing their dark, conspiratorial and lethal intent. They claim the portal is their intellectual property to do with as they please and they want to suppress it forever, keeping society blind and silencing its inventor in the process. The only chance of escape for Callison (and hope for society) becomes wherever the portal leads, and he makes the leap into an unknown world, unwittingly falling down a rabbit hole of infinite depth. He’ll learn how to get around Quanta Laboratories, but he'll also be exposed to the mysteries of life itself, seeing more and bringing the loss of his young son 30 years previous into clear re-focus. Welcome to a story of hope for the coming age that aims to challenge our inherited beliefs about life and readdress the balance between the search of the outside world for answers, and the search of the inside world for questions. Hi, and welcome to my author bio! I was born in 1980, and grew up near Reading in the UK. In 2014 I moved to Dublin, where i met my, now wife, Siobhra. I still live in Dublin today.

I'd been divided between science and art throughout my school years, but academically went with science and studied engineering at university, going on in 2007 to gain a PhD in mathematical simulation at Coventry University. Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans, so the saying goes and after the PhD i sort of fell into motorsport instructing for 8 years, which i loved. (you might get an inkling of this in chapter 17 of This Soul'd World).

This Soul'd World was first released in 2012, under a different title: "A 21st Century Copernicus Effect", however when telling laymen on the street about it (my friends) it became clear that my understanding of who Copernicus was, and theirs, were poles apart, so the book fell into obscurity. It remained on sale, just about covering the money i'd paid to a 3rd party publisher to print and list the book, but i knew it needed re-branding, (and in my heart-of-hearts, a thorough re-write). I had the book undergo a full professional edit in 2015, which resulted in a 70% plot line change... and that eventual full re-write happened in 2016/7/8 and KDP publication happened in late 2018. What the story is now, i am content with. (or should i say i no longer feel the need to keep tinkering, tweeking and writing!)

The material of the book deals with science, consciousness, alternate realities, choices, consequences, and the mystery of our spirituality. I would add, i'm not a follower of religion, but at the same time i wouldn't begrudge anyone who is. It is my opinion all religions probably started from some kind of mystical experience, and with the dawn of the internet, people are discovering the mystical experience is not unique to sages, adepts and chosen ones, but happens to normal people like me and you every day - but that's another story. :)

Another book is being written, but i have no timeline for publication.

If you're intrigued, please give my writing a go!
And if you've read my story, leave a review - thanks!

A strikingly original concept that will take the reader in many directions. There is literally enough in this book that a college course could be taught using this as a text. Is it philosophy? Is it spiritual? What is the human spirit? What is the concept of a Supreme Being? How about the unbeatable human spirit?

This Soul’d World took me on a road that was fraught with questions. In the end, I am not certain exactly what happened. I feel better having read this book. It helps the mind transcend the typical concepts of afterlife and Supreme Being. The subplots of love/family love and The Big Gov't also carry the story. If you are a fan of the Time Traveller's Wife or The Matrix or The Bourne Identity, you will enjoy this book. Recommended to the adventurous mind. A truly original piece that will leave the reader feeling different than they have ever have before after reading this book.

Disclaimer: I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Usually when I get slightly into a book I can tell if I am going to like it, if it will be for me but this book was so not what I was expecting.
This was described as a travel sci-fi and I suppose in a way it was in a much more spiritual sense. In the beginning of this book, the main characters all worked in a tech company called Quanta attempting to create a time travel machine. When the main character retires and finishes stealing all his research from his previous company, he continues the project at home and through advice he is given in what he thinks is a dream, he succeeds in completing the machine. However what he has created is not a time travel machine but rather a portal to the realm where spirits exist. Essentially a realm outside of time and space where anything is possible for the beings that inhabit it. Both the main character and his wife separately jump through the portal after being attacked by the company searching for the missing tech. They each take their own spiritual journey where they meet the eternal versions of each other and family. They are then told that the physical realm is to allow spirits to experience the world beginning with complete innocence.
SPOILERS
They re-enter the world in a slightly different parallel universe. Here with the help of other prominent scientists reveal to the entire world the device they can use to portal into the in between universe and what really happens after death effectively toppling those in power and most religions all at once.
In the beginning especially from the table of contents covering multiple timelines I believed this would be a hard sci-fi book with a lot of complex science details or a time travel book which wouldn't be well labelled enough for me to understand where I was in the world as this is my previous experience with sci-fi books with a similar concept. However this book blew me away, it changes angle so many times but always seems to make sense. Despite the multiple timelines I always knew where I was and who I was following.
In terms of the themes of the book this was far more spiritual than I expected and through that actually allowed the reader to be very reflective of our views of the world and the time out with it that we don't yet understand.
Overall this was a very well written book that surprisingly kept me hooked from the very beginning. It really made me think and view the world a bit differently than I had before. It was heartwarming from the characters and had the big hit ending leaving you wondering how the world will cope with that new knowledge.

This book triggered a dream I’ve always had, to teleport and view my life in panorama working during.
This certainly brought me a step closer to that reality of duality. This was not only reading for me; I literally tapped into my conscience at some points, wished I could stay there. But honestly I’m in there, my eyes are slightly more o pen to this familiar duality. Partly ‘Being soul-conscious’

This has been an amazing journey from the beginning. Clarity on introduction is really great, it gives you a detailed picture right from the start, yet the rollercoaster effect is there, things are getting stranger beyond usual science.
As I read I wish I could step outside my physical self and I actually did, through remembering memories and a wonderful life I’ve led. The third eye karmic effect of sort.

There’s an unmistakable undertone that keeps nagging: “Stop wasting every energy on negativity”. This may not be a self help nor a motivational literature but it certainly latently does. I really enjoyed how this effect of awakening was brought to life through a great story, this whole book has that parable impact.

It borders on religious teachings without sermonising nor preaching. Awakens self conscious thought patterns and widens views and reaches possible as a being by tapping into another paradigm of thought. Things are not necessarily messed up in the world just our minds seem fried bombarded by daily toils. Experience is only relative but conscious energy is never exhausted. I like how that shows through Jack, other-dimensional James.

As succinctly stated - Soul is only a word, but a word that symbolises the most important aspect of ourselves; the conscious energy of being. It is the platform on which all other concepts are built, even the concepts of disbelief in the soul.
Definitely a wonderful read that I’d recommend to my son. I’d write the whole book reviewing this book 😁

"Who am I? - a question answered beautifully in this story."

Callison Trebla, a researcher at Quanta, his story starts when he retired from the Quanta. A big organisation which was run by Foundation X group.
He lost his son Jack, and his life turns around. Dealing with his emotions, he did everything a person would do when he/she losses a loved one. He throws himself in Quanta experiments of inventing the time machine. His wife Eleanor, coping with the loss of his son by writing memoirs. After retiring from Quanta, he breached the contract and bring some of his lab notes and equipment back at home to continue his experiment. But he did not know he was being watched by the Quanta.
And the day has arrived when he took a jump through the portal. His jump took him on the journey to the unknown, and only to be known from his experience. A journey of awakening oneself and learn the true cause of being born on the earth. William Disdale did a great job in writing a story that connects readers consciously and subconsciously. This Soul’d World is not only a journey of Callison Trebla, Eleanor Trebla, Dominic Popovic and Anthony Van Der Presse. It is a journey of every being ever born in this materialistic world.
From his story, William teaches us that in the end, we all are the same small white dot of energy; which is floating in this endless space. We are who we make ourselves from our choices. We learn from our surroundings, but our inner me builds our external world. He sums up spirituality and why it is necessary to be achieved by everyone.

I have a lot to say, but I will spill the beans. So why don't you all read it yourself and become a part of Callison's spiritual journey and yours too.

I received this free copy via the author for an exchange of honest review.

A mind blowing science fiction novel. The storyline is quite fresh as it is not just about science, time machine or parallel universe. It is going deep into spiritual and philosophy. How someone soul searching in a place where nothing else is important but the tranquility of a soul.

The character development especially main character Callison Trebla is surely the highlight of this. He is just a retired scientist that still living in a grief and regrets after losing his son even the tragedy strucks years ago. And in the mean time, he is working time portal project that he steal on a last day he working at Quanta Laboratories. After an event that make him leap to another time dimension, he learn that he should not dwell on the past and the existence of Mystera and Liele guiding him to be more understanding about the purpose he living, spiritually. For some reasons, I feel more of spirituality side. There are a lot of moment that is quotable and related to how chaotic of our living nowaday without much care for our spirituality development.

In the end, he is not just being reward to get back to his wife. But he also being given a chance to live in a parallel universe to get the happiness that he deserve.

This is a great read for a people who love a thoughts of deep subjects and opening our mind about the context of spirituality and philosophy.

Review: For the most part this was an ok book. It had some great world building and I really liked the premise behind the book. I’ve always believed in parallel worlds since I first saw Quantum Leap, so I was really interested in this book from the premise.

However, I thought that the book had a lot of work to do. The book didn’t have a lot going on plot wise in the beginning and it set the book up to be very slow. The book got a bit better in the middle, but there was still a lot of confusing and slow parts that just made the book drag on. The characters also weren’t well developed beyond their shared trauma and they just fell flat on the page. The ending also felt elongated and just drawn out.

Verdict: It was ok, but not for me. Maybe for you!

In this book by William Disdale, you are introduced to a former researcher, Callison Trebla who just retired from his job who wrestles with showing his emotions of losing his son years earlier and also to his wife whom he loved dearly.

Further, into the story, you are shown that even after retirement Callison had a hard time letting go. In which, one event showed how far he would go in making sure he won't lose anything of his anymore - hint: stealing something that is dear to him.

Disdale did a great job in exploring how Callison would then enter a spiritual journey and slowly allowing himself to absorb the makings of spiritual knowledge and began to believe all things are interconnected. And that it is okay to just be.

My favourite part of the book is when both he and Eleanor Trebla jumped into the spiritual world and their journey of awakening began. The other world described by William are absolutely vivid and detailed, there is nothing left behind.

There are no words that could perfectly capture the work of William but it will leave you feeling better knowing that everyone has the choice to make their own path.

An amazing story that will set you to another dimension , within each chapter a new thought is born, a new life perspective is to be seen .
It is a wonderful journey of self dicovery, through the protagonist, who is a scientist, a grieving father and a loving husband.
All the characters are strongly built, new discoveries are made through an entertaining story.
I loved the writer's style and the way he started each chapter by a quote or a saying that excites the reader and makes him/ her crave more.
Also the scieintfic information were really simply added and explained, even if the reader knows nothing about dimensions and parallel universes.
I consider it one of the excellent reading choices for this year !

It is a book written in an agile and pleasant way. The descriptions and the atmosphere created are elegant and allows to feel close to the proposed fiction. It have a great scenes almost cinematographic and good represented by the protagonists. Sometimes the narrator sounds like an imposter but in the end the author give us the reasons for writing this story and proposes a simple but easy task: enjoy reading his story. The structure was manageable and the concept under the prime question (who I am) was brilliantly addressed. I have a few moments lost, the cliches and moral issues that made me temporarily abandon reading. Anyway, thank you for letting me see your world, Mr. Disdale. 3.7

One amazing book that explores the concept of our normal worldly life as well as connection of it with out deeper Consciousness which is free from any material limits. There is a beautiful connection of our normal worldly life with an eternal life free of all material constraints and which is more of SOUL dependent being. Also some religious concepts get melded together like good and bad souls and all souls shall reap what they sow in the worldly life. It pushes the reader to explore more in the direction of consciousness and soul.

A reflective, mind-bending journey into time, grief, and consciousness

This Soul’d World blends science fiction with metaphysics in a way that feels both imaginative and surprisingly human. The story follows Callison Trebla, a retired physicist haunted by the loss of his young son and pulled into a chain of uncanny coincidences that blur the line between dream and reality. From secret time-travel experiments to lucid-dream encounters and mysterious warnings about “black suits,” the novel layers intrigue with emotional depth.

What makes this book stand out is not the mechanics of time travel (which is not new), but its exploration of consciousness, intuition, and the hidden patterns that shape our lives. The narrative moves between the ordinary and the surreal (therapy sessions, quiet village streets, scientific breakthroughs, and dream messages) all interwoven to challenge how we perceive reality.

A thoughtful, atmospheric read that rewards curiosity and asks big questions about time, fate, and the self. Ideal for readers who enjoy sci-fi with philosophical undertones and stories that linger long after the last page.

An intriguing book that encourages the reader to recognize the inner wisdom that can be tapped to effect changes in outcomes. The storylines of characters intertwine throughout, the descriptions of scenery draw the reader into the story setting, and there are plot surprises that are well thought out.

First of all, thank you to @booktasters and William for the opportunity to read this book.
I don´t actually read a lot like this book, but I actually enjoy it.
I don´t think I can put it in philosophy or spiritual, maybe in a very comfortable space in between.
This book give me a lot to think about, like what if I did this thing different?, i love the idea of teleportation and I actually think like if we are in this universe, what happened in the next one, and in the next one.
If you like sci-fi and books that give you things to think about, this is definitely your book.

I have given this five stars because it was unlike anything I have ever read or come across before, in the best way, and I think its uniqueness should be celebrated.

I found the main character, Callison, an easy character to like and I identified with him in some way, even though he wasn't at all like me. I think it's important to have a protagonist that the reader will like and relate to, but that wasn't my favourite thing about it.

This story spoke to me, is how I would put it, on a deep level. I thought it was so well written, and so very clever. It was a very powerful read, very thought-provoking. While I was reading, I found myself questioning a lot of things, only because I was so intrigued by what I was reading. It never stopped surprising me, and for that reason, reading it felt like an experience, because the characters went through experiences that changed them, and I felt that, in some way, I was going through these experiences with them.

This is a story that will definitely stick in my mind. In fact, I have a friend who I think may be interested in this book, so I will recommend it.

What began as a corporate thriller about a stolen time-travel project quickly spirals into something far deeper. The protagonist, believing he’s built a time machine instead opens a gateway to a timeless spiritual realm. After he and his wife escape through it, they undergo profound personal journeys learning that physical existence is meant for spirits to experience life starting from a place of pure innocence.

Despite juggling multiple timelines, the narrative remains surprisingly clear and cohesive. It’s less a hard sci-fi manual and more a philosophical exploration, using its sci-fi framework to ask big, reflective questions about life, death and what lies beyond. It's a unique and thought-provoking read.

First, thank you to the author and Booktasters for allowing me to read and review this book. I thought the story was decent and I think this is a book that cannot only be entertaining, but thoughtful as well. I could tell the author took the time putting thought into the story and had some deep discussions of consciousness within it.

There were some parts of the story that didn’t feel like it connected and maybe if I wasn’t reading other books along with this one, I wouldn’t be as confused. In the future, I would read other things by the author.

This Soul'd World: The Rise of Consciousness by William Disdale offers a captivating take on time travel narrated from an omniscient third-person point of view. The story opens on scientist Callison Trebla’s last day at work at Quanta. The sixty-five-year-old faces his retirement with mixed emotions. Once he walks out the door he loses all rights to his research, theories, and even his time travel device (dubbed the Trebla Eye). It will all belong to the company. He just can’t let that happen, and so takes an out-of-character risk to smuggle what he needs to continue his work at home where he lives with his wife Eleanor. Once he gets the Eye operating, the story takes off. Quanta knows what he’s done, his wife is aware, and when he’s caught by Quanta’s black suits and his former boss threatens his life, he makes the jump.

On the other side of the Trebla Eye, this science-minded protagonist journeys to a land that brings into question all he has ever known as he gains knowledge of his forgotten soul identity. Here he learns it is not about what he is but who he is. I think it’s best described as a journey of spiritual awakening in a land where the proverb “Plant an intention and grow a thought, plant that thought and grow a feeling, plant that feeling and grow an attitude, plant that attitude and grow an action, plant that action and grow a habit, plant that habit and grow a destiny,” brings thoughts into focus.
The author’s background in science, engineering, and mathematical simulation delivers some of the best techo babble I’ve ever read. The story flows and makes sense. The pacing keeps the pages turning. Only in a couple of chapters at the middle did I feel it bogged down with a lot of information, but it was a teacher/student type of situation and all the information was relevant. Overall, I enjoyed every aspect of this story. This book’s plot and sub-plots are so intricately woven that it’s hard to talk about the story without including a spoiler. The main character is complex and dynamic. He and his wife have a happy marriage but suffered the loss of their only son early in their married life. They are likable and believable and I found myself rooting for them.

I recommend This Soul'd World: The Rise of Consciousness to Sci-fi, time-travel enthusiasts who enjoy stories like Recursion by Blake Crouch, people pondering the meaning of life, and anyone who enjoys literate ideas and futuristic concepts. It’s imaginative but believable and Disdale wraps up every plot thread. I give this book a strong 5 stars.

This Soul'd World is a story with sci-fi and elements of magical realism. It revolves around Callison and his journey to find answers and discovering himself among other things.
I myself don't like coming across spoilers for the books I read so I'll do my best to avoid making them. After all, I wouldn't want to spoil you of the interesting bits of the story.

Plot: 4/5

The quotes at the beginning of every chapter were a delight to read. Though there were times I ask myself "How are they relevant to the chapter?". Not figuring out the connection for some of them has more to do with me and my own lack of understanding rather than anything. I don't often dive into the philosophical aspects of the books I read so I can't say I appreciated all of them.

The ideas behind the story itself is intriguing. Time travel, dreams and the consciousness, parallel time lines, and understanding the self. There were times when I felt confused about how some developments came about but this didn't take away much from enjoying the story in itself.

To be able to find a path that led to understanding and coming to terms with oneself through exploring possibilities and one's own choices is truly a remarkable thing.

Writing: 2/5

Frankly, I'd have enjoyed this book so much more if it didn't have so many run-ons and other problems in terms of grammar and paragraph construction. There were times I had to read some parts a few times to properly grasp what was being said. There's also a lack of proper distinction/transition between some scenes. The best example of this is the first two scenes at the start of the book. It starts with a dream and shifts to the scene where he wakes up. The transition -- or lack thereof -- felt jarring and left me confused as to what was actually happening. This sort of "transition" also occurs in a number of occasions later on in the book.

Considering that This Soul'd World is written in third-person-limited, being able to clearly distinguish shifts in perspective and changes in states/scenes is a must. Some might argue that this is the author's "Writing Style" but there needs to be a clear distinction between phases especially in stories that involve logical thinking (does not necessarily require real world logic so long as it applies to the logic in the story's world).

Overall enjoyment: 3/5
Overall, I did enjoy reading the story. There were points that bothered me but doesn't that apply to majority of the stories we encounter? I gained interesting insights on things that had previously caught my interests -- a view from another's perspective.

Would I read it again? Not very likely but maybe, when I feel like it, I might.

This book is a thought-provoking read and is a perfect blend of sci-fi and philosophical exploration. The plot revolves around a scientist, Callison Trebla who invented the time portal, and unveils a thrilling narrative that questions the existence. The story challenges the beliefs about life, consciousness, and the purpose of our existence. Why do we exist ?

The story unfolds with the awakening of Callison Trebla, exploring adventure and self-discovery. The stolen time portal becomes a symbol of fight against Quanta Laboratories, the dark and conspiratorial branch attempting to suppress the revolutionary invention. The author binds the elements of intrigue, suspense, and cosmic exploration. Callison's journey becomes not only a quest for survival but a quest for understanding the deeper meaning of life. The story turns emotional with the loss of his younger son.

The book's exploration of alternate timelines and dimensions challenges readers to question the nature of reality and contemplate their place in the universe. This novel makes a compelling read for those seeking a blend of science fiction and existential exploration of self- discovery. The language is simple and easy to understand. The title is captivating with a nice and an apt cover. Go and order your copy now !

this book is not something you read everyday. I'm not much of a science person but this book kept me wondering about everything till the end. and surely, this book didn't disappoint. it can keep you up at night wondering about everything. as someone who's not the best at science or astronomy, every concept the author used was easy enough to decipher. i would have given the book five stars, though i have one issue, i felt that the book didn't follow a fixed pace, which is definitely not a problem, but it can sometimes feel a little to hard to catch. the start of the story was going in the perfect pace, the middle of story was a little fast, but it added to the point. the ending of story should have been quick and not too dragging as i feel. other than all this, the book was honestly intriguing. i would definitely recommend if life existence, dimensions travelling and time and such subjects intrigue you. hats off to the author !!

Wow! What a journey inside the subconscious.
I felt like diving in a sea of thoughts, ideas, rediscovering inner intentions and following intuitions.
I loved the idea, the characters, even the evil ones, and above all the magic felt in the land of the parallel dimension.
It is a life-changing story that you won't regret reading!

This Soul'd World, what a journey? This is a Sci-fi book that has had a tremendous impact throughout. I loved it so much because though, a fiction but through this book, the author robustly challenges the existing world dilemma of the institution of religion. I am enchanted due to my limited background of Metaphysics. I personally have been on a journey of enquiry, demanding answers that the Bible and the institution of religion could not answer. The book managed to narrow the wide range of questions that I haven't been able to make sense of until reading this book. The book is extremely esoteric and may not be easily accepted by those, regardless of their training, who are deeply entranced in their religious beliefs. The book needs those curious minds that need relatable answers regarding man's journey in this world and his purpose.

This book did a great job in demystifying those questions forbidden in the formal religious framework. I loved the Jack character more than any other. Jack has a unique but unifying character, always proving to be ahead of his parents spiritually. He is the one who paradoxically teach and guide his parents despite his tender age.

Anyone who has been struggling with reconciling religion and spirituality would benefit immensely by reading this book.

I am aware that it's not my place to moderate this book but if I were to venture into the position of an interlocutor, I would discourage the inclusion of the James and Sasha characters as I felt, they didn't have a meaningful place in this story. In fact, they role is extremely confusing that it somehow dilute the otherwise impeccable story.

I want to laud the author in wrapping up the book by clearly elevating the central message weaved meticulously throughout the book. I loved that approach as it helps the reader to confirm what the ultimate purpose of this book was. By the time I finished this book, I felt immensely enlightened and empowered to look at the world with a completely different perspective and paradigm. Indeed it was such a boon to read this well presented and structured book with excellent pacing that splice different scenes skillfully to educate and appease the reader.

I thank you for the opportunity to share my views on this well grafted allegory.

This book feels quiet but heavy. Not heavy in a sad way, more like… . This Soul’d World isn’t a normal story with big drama. It’s more about what’s going on inside people’s minds.
The characters don’t feel like proper “characters.” They feel like thoughts. Like different versions of us more lit confused, aware, stuck, waking up slowly. The main one feels lost but not in a bad way, just trying to understand life beyond routine and noise. Some characters stay asleep in their patterns, some start questioning everything, and that contrast felt very real.
the writing is simple, sometimes almost too simple, but that’s what works. It doesn’t explain everything clearly, and I liked that. It lets you connect your own thoughts with the book. Some lines stay with you even after you close it
go for it gaaizzzz ~

This Soul'd World is a thought-provoking sci-fi story. It follows the main character, who thought he had built a time machine rather than a machine that sends you to another dimension. The story doesn't tell you how to think or even sometimes give clear explanations. Instead, it wants you to ask questions and be reflexive, which is always something I love in books. I like the main character, he serves his role perfectly for this type of book, he's likable, lost and confused and so he brings us with him as he goes on this exploring journey. I like the narrative style too.
