Elizabeth meets Fitzwilliam on his first full day in Meryton. They immediately have a connection that cannot be broken. Bingley is not the friend he pretends to be. He has many financial issues that can only by solved if he forces Darcy to marry his sister Caroline. Bingley begins telling the residence of Meryton that his sister’s intended would be joining them shortly. Will Darcy marry Elizabeth, or will he be forced to marry Caroline? Who will the Bennets and Hursts support? Will Wickham’s appearance in Meryton cause even further issues? This is a work of fiction. Any similarity to persons alive or dead is unintentional. ** This novel contains scenes which are not recommended for younger readers. These scenes include marital relations by a loving couple. **
This is an interesting take on a bad Charles Bingley and Caroline. They tried to force a marriage to Darcy but was foiled by love. Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth Bennet at first sight and would not walk away. The plot was great the execution was a bit short of what could be a terrific story. The things I had a problem with were not that it story moved quickly it was when it didn’t. There were some things left out such as to why Jane was suddenly mean to Elizabeth and the explanation didn’t seem to add up as her character didn’t appear to have reasons for the change. Honestly she wasn’t in the book much but I was lead to believe she was the same as in canon. I did like Mr Bennet, he was definitely different but things didn’t change in the household until Darcy married Elizabeth. He suddenly became a caring father even if his family didn’t like it. While this was a second reading I enjoyed it so much more than my first reading. I begin to have so much more responsibility for those who write and publish books in JAFF than ever before. They come up with such great plots I enjoy them. I’m not paying $18.99 for a book so the book can be edited. I read these because they are fun.
I’m giving it a 3 for creativity and a 1 for execution. Bingley is a bad boy in this one. There was lots of room for interesting actions and dialogue but instead the story was thin on character development or dialogue. Lots of repetitions and inconsistencies. Why does Georgiana stay in the dower house and not with the Darcys if the area is dangerous? Wouldn’t she be safer with them? Lots of loose ends
A 3.5 rounded up! It was a rushed tale, and with things left unfinished, too many repeated statements ending one sentence and starting the next. For example: ...took the servants' stairs to Darcy's room. On the way to Darcy's room. These repeats would have better served words rounding out the story, but it was interesting, if many ways unkind to characters we hoped to like. The one succinct I very much enjoyed was the way Wickham was handled! Perfect! I did like Mr. Bennet's willingness to help, Hurst was used well, and the servants took a leading role. The sex scenes were unexpectedly explicit without warning, bordering toward aggressive on his part with her his willing supplicant, but in the midst of all that chaos was a twist of what would occur if the couple decided they were in love in 3 days.
It is difficult to imagine Bingley as a villain, however, if he is to be a villain at least make it worth the read. The writing was choppy and did not necessarily flow well and the booked did not seem to have good editing. Darcy was portrayed as a romantic, which I believe he was, but then the love scenes were described a little to vulgar for my taste.
The book was disappointing, the story was not well developed. I started to give it one star but opted to give it two for effort.
I sometimes like to step away from more serious P&P books and this fits the bill. This variation focuses on Darcy and Elizabeth. Scheming characters are dealt with swiftly and the evil is kept as a background story which I love. Because the story isn't fleshed out things happen quickly and I'm okay with that. I love the Bingley character, he was evil, but not psychotic. I never like when characters are deranged or delusional. Jane character was different, but I never been a Jane fan. I actually like Mary more (although Mary wasn't a part of this variation.)
Just a stone cold mess. Amateurishly written with stilted, ungrammatical and anachronistic dialogue. The worst case of insta-love I’ve ever seen - Darcy asked for a courtship within hours of their first meeting! No character development whatsoever, and what passed for the plot was frequently interrupted for pages and pages of shopping and wedding planning and, in the second half, for explicit and awkward sex scenes. Really not recommended.
There can be only one explanation... AI. This was the absolute worst book I have ever read!!! My God! How can you publish such obviously horrible crap? You should be ashamed!!!
The drama makes up for the writing (her later works are better, but this one is ... an early work? but dramatic). And you just have to love a bad Bingley story. They abound in most of her stories (at least a very bad someone or multiple someone's).
Absolutely love the story line completely off canon. Enjoy this authors works . Absolutely hate the Americanisms. Also some of the smut language not to my taste but at least only a small part of the book. Would of liked a warning though
