They're Here You Know

Annie is fourteen-year-old girl who all her young life has believed firmly in the laws and principles of science…at the cost of Santa Claus and Tooth Fairies. If it wasn't measurable it didn't exist. But the death of her father and the aging of her beloved grandmother sends Annie on a quest to prove the existence of the paranormal, specifically ghosts, and thus an eternal soul. Needless to say, there are many dead ends and frauds in her quest. Will Annie’s Goth friend Caden hold the answer to Annie’s quest for the supernatural, or does the a haunted nursing home that has become her grandmother’s residence as her Nonna is slowly enveloped by the shadow of Alzheimer’s disease hold the key? Can science prove the existence of the unknown and that they’re here, or will it take a little faith…

If a book makes me cry, it automatically receives 5 stars. No questions asked. I feel so blessed for Steve to have shared this with me at work! I’ll write a full review once I add it into my journal!

This was a quick, easy and good read. It's about a 14 year old girl who thrives on science and how absolute it is, but she's also intent on proving that ghosts exist. I liked the contrast between her science background and her yearning to see if ghosts are real. The story focuses on her relationship with her grandmother who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and her struggle with the disease. It was a fun young adult ghost story. A good beach read, if you will. Doesn't take a lot to digest it, but it also hits you in the feels.

Excellent YA novel relatable to both boys and girls and there are characters all YAs can relate to.
Quick read but thoroughly developed characters.
The twist is well hidden but not exposed too late that it feels like the author is trying to wrap it up too fast.
Great gift for any YA, especially for Halloween or for those that may have lost a grandparent. A reminder to adults and lesson to YAs that it’s a blessing to get to know and relate to grandparents generation as an adult.
The author’s diverse interests in science, spirituality, environmental activism and history is apparent and sprinkled not-so-subtly throughout and his description of young love may be a bit too idealistic but looks upon from a lovingly teacher’s point of view.

Bittersweet

This is not the story you think it's going to be. Ghosts are all around us. Just depends on what you expect to see. Nice job teach!
