Fat Vampire Chronicles #1

The Vampire Maurice

Rate this book
The mob is out for blood—literally.

At the height of prohibition, the real threat on the streets of 1929 Chicago isn't Al Capone and his empire built on bootleg whiskey; it's the vampire mafia. And the liquid they trade is of an altogether deadlier variety.

In this hidden world, the vampire mafia is bootlegging an addictive and deadly synthetic blood called Thrill. When the vampire Maurice discovers their blood-running operation, he must act to stop the flow of bootlegged blood, or risk the power balance of the vampire world tipping entirely into the hands of those who have been corrupted.

But the mafia doesn't take kindly to interlopers, even those with fangs.

The Vampire Maurice is a brand-new, full-length novel set in the world of Johnny B. Truant's bestselling Fat Vampire series. Scroll up and download your copy today!

Yay Maurice is back. The therapy part is fun. The flashbacks are more serious and a little insane. Daisy was a wild card born high. The ending was heartbreaking. Nice to learn more about Maurice and Celeste. Celeste’s glamour gave me chills. So many scrambled minds. Looking forward to more stories about Maurice.

Great to be back reading some more of the Fat Vampire stuff. Really enjoy them and fully recommend the first 6 books as well as the start of this series. So much fun. 👍

I didn't finish this one the first time because I was burned out on this setting. I read books 1-6 of the first series back to back, and then tried to go right into the story of this secondary character without a break and I couldn't do it. Plus I made the mistake of watching a little bit of the TV show which was almost nothing like the books at all. Anyway, I got back around to this because I designated May "Finish the DNFs" month and it was nice to dip my toe back into the Fat Vampire blood. I loved Maurice and learning more about him, his backstory, and how he ticks reframed some of his actions throughout the series, but didn't necessarily change my view of his motivations or turn the whole series on its ear the way some prequels do with crazy reveals.

This story was WAY more enthralling than I had expected it to be. Prohibition-era vampire mafia ... who woulda' thunk. This author is very good at working way outside the box; nice twisty ending. Looking forward to more.

The expansion of the vampire series is fun and I liked learning more about Maurice. It was not as fun as the Fat Vamp series but this is just the first book and I expect it will get better.
