When a Silicon Valley wonderboy whose company just tanked is found dead in a gruesome pose, Detective Charlie Crawford and his partner Mort Ott swing into action. Only problem is the crime scene is scrubbed clean, and leads…not a one. This comes the day after the cold-blooded murder of an owner of Palm Beach’s most exclusive health club. Who said the high walls and privacy hedges of Palm Beach make it one of the safest places in the world?
A native New Englander, Tom Turner ran a bar in Vermont after college, then moved to New York and spent time as an award-winning copywriter at several Manhattan advertising agencies.
After years of post-Mad Men life, he made a radical change and got a job in commercial real estate. A few years later he ended up in Palm Beach, buying, renovating and selling houses. On the side, he wrote Palm Beach Nasty, its sequel, Palm Beach Poison, and a screenplay, Underwater.
While at a wedding, he fell for the charm of Charleston, South Carolina, and moved there. He recently completed his third novel entitled, Killing Time in Charleston.
Thorsen Paul has “invested” hundreds of millions of dollars in his company, and has racked up a lot of enemies, when the money is frittered away.
So Detective Charlie Crawford and Detective Mort Ott are not surprised when he disappears, until they discover his body on the beach, buried up to his neck in the sand.
Unfortunately, they’ll have to leave the country to get the people responsible and entice them back to the USA.
Sounds like a great idea, but things don’t go as planned...
Crawford and Ott are investigating a murder in Palm Beach. The investigation isn't quite going the way they hope it would. An EPIC story, that goes from Palm Beach, to Lake Worth. Chasing a woman and her minion, a not so bright guy. A totally awesome ending!! Me? I'm off to read book 8!!
I have read all seven books in this series in a remarkable short amount of time and they say 'familiarity breeds contempt' so maybe that is why I wasn't as pleased with this book as the earlier ones in the series. But I just felt the author overreached on the victims and overreached on the criminals.
The earlier books had a sort of gossipy, chatty, McNally-esque quality where we experienced a brief glimpse at the life of the 1/200th of the 1%. In this book our victims are more nouveau riche, working millionaires. And one of the baddies is an international crime syndicate....
Reading the series as I did it was funny to see the evolution of a character in response to the rapid social changes in our society. Charlie goes from a good looking guy with two good looking women who he sees socially to a good looking guy where the two women are like you must choose between us. I guess adults having consensual sex is now bad... if one of the adults is a man and the other a woman... it kind of feels like a consciousness raising.
I really enjoyed this detective novel! Detective Charlie Crawford and his partner Mort Ott make up the two detectives in the homicide section of the Palm Beach police department. Charlie is determined to keep his murder solving percentage at 100%. But, to do that, they have to be a little unorthodox, keep up a sense of humor and put themselves in danger. Two murders have come up to be solved...one is the wonderboy who's company has tanked and left a lot of disgruntled investors..including some connections with a cartel in Mexico. The second is a woman who runs an exclusive health club in West Palm Beach with her twin sister. With the club charging exorbitantly high fees, they still aren't making any money. Looks like a burglarly gone bad, but could it be a set-up? Set amongst the rich and sometimes odd people of Palm Beach. This is a good detective story. The characters are enjoyable and have a sense of humor, even if some of the story is a little bit of a stretch of believability, don't care. Because the characters are good and it moves along and takes you for an entertaining ride. Will try more books from this author.
Once again, Charlie Crawford finds a ton of trouble and shoots the bad guys in a red Speedo. Exciting action takes him to Mexico and back while out maneuvering a cartel. Lots of action and very entertaining.
It's mayhem from the very start of Palm Beach Broke, for Charlie Crawford and his sidekick and virtual sounding board, Mort Ott, as the incredible Tom Turner's 7th Charlie Crawford Palm Beach series, has two murders within the first two pages of this vastly entertaining novel, followed up with a break-and-enter buglary, by a pair of incompetent juveniles acting on a dodgy tip-off. The first murder is quite quickly solved, as are the burglaries.
By contrast, the second murder is worthy of an episode of CSI Miami or Miami Vice, as a failed IT scheme company's CEO, who leaves many unhappy investors, including a Mexican female cartel boss, which encounter he horribly didn't survive.
As brilliant as ever, Tom Turner's Palm Beach Broke is guaranteed 100% satisfying, with more twists and turns than a sidewinder in a cement mixer. Charlie Crawford and Mort Ott leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice for the deserving and retribution for those who bring evil to Palm Beach.

Brilliant character development. look forward to reading his new series that takes place in Charleston, South Carolina with the principal character a transplant from Boston! Congratulations Tom Turner! n!
Tom Turner is brilliant at character development and description of locales in Palm Beach and the surrounding counties. I discovered Turner quite by accident by reading the riveting Palm Beach Nasty - I was hooked! Read the entire series - you will not be sorry! I look forward to reading the next Crawford mystery and Turner's new series in Charleston, SC.
Charlie and Otto dive into this adventure big time - which I dudes a seriously scary murder or two, weird tins, a Mexico sojourn and a Palm Beach mansion loan with consequences. A few wild and crazy adversaries keep things hopping and the regulars - Dominica, Rose, Rutledge and Balfour appear at appropriate times. A wickedly fun romp you shouldn’t miss.
I've been disappointed with the last few in this series for one reason or another and this one was sadly no different. It was 100 pages too long and just dragged on...who cares about assassin's sight seeing...yawn. The other murder was so obvious pretty early on for anyone who reads mystery/thrillers regularly. I suppose I will see this series through to the end because I do like the characters.

Just a fun police procedural with some of my favorite detectives. The bad guy in this book was a riot. I enjoyed the light tour of Palm Beach and Florida. An extra star for mentioning Frida Kahlo. And yes, she was way more talented than Diego.
This series is very entertaining. They keep your interest to find out what is going to happen next. On to the next one #8 and I hope more to come. Enjoying every minute of the stories.
There have been some mysteries come out of Palm Beach but I don't think they were as exciting as Tom Turner 's mysteries. Love getting into his stories.
A gruesome mutilation and drowning with suspects galore and some despicable characters skittering around Florida thanks to a failed Silicon Valley start up and subsequent Ponzi scheme.
Another good one with some heart stopping action. Charlie and Mort are a great team. They always get their man, provide plenty of action and make me laugh sometimes while doing it.
The Crawford series would make a successful HBO series. Have to keep the language. Thoroughly enjoying this series. Everything is believable. These two guys have great respect for each other, love their banter. What's not to like. Will keep reading on.
Try to read the Palm Beach series in order ~ really helps getting to know the characters. Although technically the series books are stand alone, old characters keep popping up. Great read.
