For anyone interested in owning horses – whether breeding, racing, or riding – conformation and lameness will eventually be subjects you’ll want to become familiar with. At a minimum it will be of assistance when you discuss matters with a veterinarian. Three short books give some background on these subjects for those new to the business: “Harness Horse Lameness” by Martin I. Levman (ISBN-0-9691178-0-9), “Horse Conformation as to soundness and performance” by Ben K. Green (ISBN-0-87358-135-0), and “The Lame Horse” by James R. Rooney (ISBN-0-498-01278-6). These excellent books provide a summary view of various conformation and lameness issues, and are especially helpful since they are illustrated. If you are serious about horses, these will help with your schooling.
