Jake and the League #2

The League and the Legend: Jake and the League Book 2

Rate this book
After a back-to-school night that became a frenzied fight for survival, seventh grade has finally settled down for Jake, Lucy, and TJ. Of course, there are still your basic Level Three humiliations: awkward hygiene challenges, toxic nicknames, and science fair debacles. But at least nobody is running for their life. That all changes when dangerous intruders descend on the historic Chicago hotel Jake calls home. After a daring escape, Jake, Lucy, and TJ find themselves fugitives on the run, chasing a series of cryptic messages that lead to a mysterious plot to steal Civil War codes codes that somehow still matter today. Along the way they survive a shocking betrayal and unearth more stunning family secrets. In this sequel to the critically acclaimed The League and the Lantern, Brian Wells has once again crafted a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping thriller, skillfully blending action, humor, and historical trivia.

Another A++++for this author's second book in the series. It is fast paced, funny, full of adventure and you will love the characters. I especially enjoyed the book and the setting in Cincinnati. This is a great read for the juvenile as well as the adult reader. Each chapter sets you up to keep reading!

A great book for all ages, filled with action, suspense & mystery. A thriller from beginning to end. It keeps you guessing till the end, which is full of surprises by itself. A book that is hard to put down. There is also plenty of humor in the book. An excellent sequel to the first book. It's a joy to read an adventure where young children can be heros not just adults.

I received a complimentary copy.

I strongly suggest reading book one first to get the best experience. This book is great for younger readers and yet has enough of a story to keep older ages entertained as well. The characters are written to life and the writing style has a flow that makes it easy to keep centered and read without wanting to go do other things.

I only read this sequel because my 11 year old loved the first one, and wanted me to read the 2nd with her. This one is better. I still don’t love the huge absence of adults in these books. It creates a very unrealistic storyline, that is set in a real setting.
However this books flowed a bit better, and kept us wondering what was going to happen next.

Another adventure for the seventh grade team of Jake, Lucy, andT.J. I like the way Wells weaves history with adventure and the travels through Chicago, Indiana m, and Cincinnati.
Sometimes the danger and falls become a bit too unrealistic but of course this is a youth book. Also, the references to other stories and super heroes keep this read moving quickly for the younger reader.

I really wanted to read this book for a long time. I read the first one and would recommend. This one just keeps getting better. I love the similarities in the two books and the jokes it makes in the second about the first. When the author does that is just makes the book so much better. I also learned a lot about the civil war and underground railroad. I didn't know who some of the abolitionists they talked about were, but I am glad that I have gained new knowledge. The book was so real and I could relate with TJ and what he was sometimes going through the book. I loved, but would recommend you read the first book before you rad this one because if you don't this one might not make the most sense.
