*dense* with not just routes, but also anecdotes, history, architecture, geology background, and photographs 😍
Fantastic! (And probably even better in print - it loses a little sparkle in the transition to ebook)

Wonderful book for those Sunday afternoon adventures. Take the fam out and try out a local walk. There will be stairs galore, and views you haven't seen before.

What's nice about this walk book is that 1) it's hyper-local to Portland and surrounding communities and 2) there's lots of historic tidbits thrown in to help you understand what you are seeing and 3) there's always a spot or two along the way where you can duck in for a coffee or a quick bite.

I encourage people to give this a try. We've already done two walks: one through Linnton, a tiny outer Portland enclave nestled on the Willamette river just northwest of the industrial area, and one through the twisty, posh early-pioneer Portland Heights neighborhood. There is so much to see and to learn. I came away with a greater understanding of the city I live in and the scenes I see today.

Note: microcosm.pub is the website you can order from, also indie bookshops and gift boutiques do sell this book, and very likely Powell's does as well. Microcosm, the publisher, appreciates direct order. They are not interested in stocking Amazon. :-D

Started reading this book when the battery of my Kindle Fire croaked after 10 years of usage, leaving me high and dry from the e-book I had started.

A very informative and interesting book with lots of tidbits about Portland and its neighborhoods. The only thing lacking were historical details about most of the stairways themselves.
