One day, Daniel and his friends Elliott, Alice and Nancy stop outside a ramshackle house. Daniel says that the house belongs to his aunt Johanna. The others ask where his aunt has gone. Daniel replies that she's gone to the moon and is late coming back because she was tied up with green string.
I found this book by accident but it is seriously interesting. Daniel Willmott's aunt is never around and he always has a different, fantastical story each day about where she is. I'm reminded of Tracy Beaker and of a child I met on placement who used to come up with stories about who their dad was, even though in reality they had no idea. The image of Daniel's aunts crooked seeming house repeating itself throughout is really strange and mysterious. In the end, you're not entirely sure if Daniel was lying or not at all.
This book was ever so funny. This was read to me on my first day on my PGCE course and I fell in love with It. This book introduced me to repetition and how catchy books can be something that I hadn’t thought about previously. Children would absolutely love this book. Again another great ‘end of day’ reader.
