Published in 1976, this book predates modern computerized search techniques for finding family history. Its real strength is its anecdotes about how records were kept about military pensions and immigration and its examples of different people and how they were found in records. The book is well written in a chatty style that makes it easy to read. One can get good information on how to talk to older family members to suss out old family stories to get started on finding family history. Again, it predates the great progress that has been made in digitizing and indexing records after 1976.
