On Her Plate introduces us to a conscious way of thinking about the human and earth connection; What properties can be found in nature and how closely does the human body interact with them? What are we doing that counteracts the natural balance of our body and planet? We explain what vitamin and mineral deficiencies look and feel like; What makes up the human body and how do we properly replenish? Readers will learn from many retired nurses, nutritionists, biology majors, personal trainers, and every day women. The authors explore exercise regimens, female hormonal issues, cancers, and dive into how our mindset, busyness, and confidence–or lack thereof, is steering our eating habits. This book shares real health experiences from women, paired with yummy, nutrient dense recipes that are familiar such as soups, pasta, and chocolate chip muffins. In an effort to reduce added hormones in the diet, no dairy, eggs, or animal byproducts were used, and gluten-free options are provided. Contributors include Samantha Cifelli, Margie Cook, Rebecca Hall, Neli Hession, Ashly Hill, Jenna Knight, Paula Man, Allison Marschean, Effie Mitskopoulos, Tania Jane Moraes-Vaz, Jy Nanda, Sindy Ng, Charleyne Oulton, Amy Rempel, Meghan Rose, Deirdre Slattery, Kelly Spencer, Helen — The Plantiful Chef.
You really couldn’t pick a better and more diverse group of women to share their knowledge and stories on plant-based diets, healthy living and alignment of mental, physical and social needs for the attainment of positive body image and health.
Each chapter offers a glimpse into the real, raw, and radiant experiences of women who are redefining their connection with food, culture, health, and self-worth. The stories are as diverse as the women who tell them—yet they all echo the same truth: nourishment goes far beyond the plate.
Recently I was accepted into the prestigious T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies affiliated with Cornell University. The intensive program focuses on plant-based eating. When I read the book description for "On Her Plate" by Ky-Lee Hanson, I was so excited because I'm very interested in exactly what Ms. Hanson writes about: "plant based recipes, life stories, and natural health sciences"! I'm so happy I found this book. The author did a wonderful job of synthesizing recipes with essays by a variety of women (a.k.a. Wellness Warriors) and I loved her realistic approach to creating lives that are flexible, not "perfect." The author's writing style is confident, passionate, and conversational. It's a very interesting read; I'll definitely recommend On Her Plate" to my classmates once I begin my studies. Great book!
