Among the unbeautiful, endless misery, isolation, and desolation that enslaves Chicago’s inner city. Buried in the gripping cloak of grays and browns crying from abandoned flats, bungalows, and apartment buildings – there’s a beauty there somehow. Her name is Brenda and she dwells in the cloak of grays and browns, surviving the insurmountable odds placed before her. Living under the oppressive tyranny of her sex trafficker-father, young Brenda is forced to give her nubile body to men. However, one uneventful, tragic night for the young girl will throw her life into further shambles. Accused of killing her john, Brenda struggles to prove her innocence in a court system that seems hell-bent on just throwing young, black bodies behind bars. Nonetheless, with the support her peers on the inside, Brenda develops the courage and faith to fight for her innocence and hopefully free herself from possible life imprisonment for a crime she knows she didn’t do. In this urban drama, Quan Millz explores the intersection of child sex trafficking, politics, racism and the incessant injustices that many young Black people face trying to navigate America's corrupt criminal justice system.
I wanna know what's gonna happen with Brenda and where is part two? I hope everybody get exposed and the lady make the right decision to help her. Her daddy need life in jail nasty ass. I'm so happy she found someone to help her and be her friend, hopefully everything works out.
The story was interesting and I thought it was going to be one of this author’s books with a “ratchet” title but awesome storyline but it just ended. Right in the middle it ended….with no mention of a part 2. For the first time ever I’m highly disappointed in this author.
Another banger! 14-year old Brenda, has no choice but to prostitute for her father(also, her pimp)! Being the money-maker in his sick-way, Brenda winds up killing a JOHN!
this one made me sad and mad, when your father is awful and your mother's ran off what's a girl to do but be messed up and sad and crazy but wow the turn of this story was just so sad, im sure there will be a part 2, wow
