The superb book describes the modern theory of the magnetic properties of solids. Starting from fundamental principles, this copiously illustrated volume outlines the theory of magnetic behaviour, describes experimental techniques, and discusses current research topics. The book is intended for final year undergraduate students and graduate students in the physical sciences.
Good book for having most of magnetism stuff under control (kind of a manual) but... many proofs are chooped, others are hidden in exercises compromising fundamental segments of understanding. I'ts a shame because the topics are mostly interesting!
While I didn’t read it cover to cover, Blundell’s introduction to magnetism was a constant companion during my graduate school magnetism course. Since I’ve read almost all of the chapters at some point or another, furiously annotating some of them, and since my upcoming Master’s thesis is on the topic of magnetism, I’ve grown quite emotionally attached to this book and am therefore choosing to add it to my list of read books :) (but I guess I’ll let my grade on the final exam decide my final rating ;) so I’ll update this review when I find out)
Edit : I ended up getting 78/100, the mean being 63/100, which is acceptable I suppose :) (actually I will very happily give the Blundell five stars as I still go back to it and keep gaining new insight from it)
