I'd only ever read the last chapter of this book; my Mum's contribution "People Here are So Special". I read it again with tears in my eyes. Vale Kaye Harvey.

I recently visited the State Coalmine and went on a 90 minute guided tour that piqued my interest in the town I had been visiting since I was a child.

A well put together collection of memories from Wonthaggi residents reflecting on their families, childhood and the coalmine - the midday whistle can still be heard from miles away.

The mine closed in 1968 but the people and the town are still flourishing and welcoming - "The Town that Refused to Die"
