Calvin is a billionaire investment banker whose 38 years old and in need of a wife and heir. His reasoning is that he doesn’t want his lazy alcoholic cousin to inherit his family’s legacy. After discussing his dilemma with his mother he realizes the perfect solution is his assistant Yvonne, who he has been resisting his attraction too for 10 years.
So this is your typical billionaire romance where both people are great friends who have been secretly in love with each other but too scared to tell the other. While it’s the typical dynamic it’s told really well.
I found myself really invested in Yvonne and Calvin’s relationship. Things that hooked me was that Yvonne is not ambiguously Black nor is her friends or family. Yvonne easily code switches and is the neighborhood “babygirl” who everyone loves. Calvin’s uncomfortable at first when he first meets everyone but embraces everything about what makes Yvonne who she is. From her love of African art to some of the pimps and hustlers who protected her in the Bronx. I even enjoyed Calvin’s crazy friend Max, his drunk cousin and his over the top mother. Everyone from both sides were rooting for this couple and went out their way to play matchmaker.
My only issue with the story was making Yvonne pretty much asexual because she loved Calvin so much. Authors need to stop making these women nuns while the men are man whores in these stories. There’s no way this woman hadn’t dated in 10 years. Finally, her willingness to accept anything from Calvin as long as she was able to marry him and have his children was a no go for me. She’s a strong woman but insecure when speaking up about what she wants from Calvin.
Overall this was a very enjoyable story. I would definitely love to see a story between Max and Toni both are a complete mess and full of comic relief.
I loved this story and the characters were believable and delightful. But I did have one peeve about this book; what’s up with the word “authority” being misspelled in several places and being capitalized. It’s goofs like this that can really ruin a story for an avid reader like myself.
A chore to read as it contains numerous errors: Discrete instead of discreet Too instead of to Incorrect tenses Pejorative and quite offensive description of a character Ridiculously incomprehensible French. I mean the author wrote: "Bonjuer" and then, "I vous appellees pour ma mere". Then again, what was I expecting if he or she proved incapable of constructing a proper sentence in English.
Cant put the book down!! Surprisingly entertaining, I had a good laugh here and there, it's a typical Billionaire's romance book but it sooo good! I really enjoyed it!
This is my second time reading this book. Even as I read, I remembered nothing about this book. It was strange until I remembered that the last of 2018 and continuing in 2019 was an extremely bad year for me. It only got worse and continues now. I lost my closest relatives to death. My husband, and I both had major sugeries. Covid happened, more deaths, and my husband had a quadruple bypass two months ago. I hadn't be able to read much.
It's only been this month that I had the time or energy or desire to read. I started rereading favorites of mine and happened upon this one. As I read, I thought the exact same thing in the 2019 review. I couldn't figure out why I didn't rate the book higher. As entertaining as the book was, it became boring, the sex even more disappointing and unbelievable and ended on a flat note and was hard for me to finish.
Humorous Proposal
An interracial romance that was as hilarious as it was unbelievable. It was much longer than any interracial book that I've read. Hopefully no one would take any of this seriously. It should be labeled an interracial, romantic comedy.
Calvin was a typical, arrogant, white, male billionaire. Yvonne was pretty atypical as the black, female heroine in this book. Both were extremely loyal to each other. The proposal Calvin made to Yvonne was never meant to be based on love. Yvonne had worked for Calvin for ten years and knew what a womanizer he was. She was his cleanup woman in every sense. Calvin knew that Yvonne knew everything there was to know about him. The book opens with comedy and there were plenty of laugh out loud moments throughout the book. The characters were not fully developed but there was enough backstory that you knew what motivated both Calvin and Yvonne. Even the secondary characters were as funny as they could be.
The sex was not sensual and at times was a little too erotic. It seemed the author decided at times that some overly, descriptive, graphic sex was necessary. It added nothing to the book. Spanking is a complete turnoff and there's nothing erotic about it - at least, not in this book. The grammatical errors were due to carelessness of both author and editor, if there was one. Still, this was a fun read but could have been so much better. Better editing and less unnecessary, graphic sex would have improved the book.
I loved Calvin and Yvonne' s story. They had a very interesting relationship because they both were hiding their feelings from each other. I'm glad Claire gave Calvin the idea to propose to Yvonne and I'm glad he pursued her because he wanted her. I loved how they talked about everything ( except their love for each other) and took care of each other. Calvin really loved Yvonne and he showed it in how he treated her. While Yvonne was always there for Calvin encouraging him and being his rock. The families and friends were all great too. I will definitely be reading this again.
I absolutely loved this story!! I couldn't put my kindle down! First, let me say thank you for none of that over the top drama! You kept it simple and sweet and I truly loved every character in here. Yvonne and Clavin!!!! Omg, I loved their relationship.. The banter here and there and their love for each other which was obvious from the start. This was perfect. I would definitely recommend this story and look forward in reading your other stories!!
Overall cute and sexy story. I had a few personal issues with the *spoiler* an** sex scene...after a decade of Zero activity...Zero prep time could not make a realistic pleasant experience**for her! Makes the H seem inconsiderate to say the least of being less then a perfect lover. Some editing vocab issues...depth when should have been deft for example...Overall I liked it and will read more from this author.
The idea of the book was good but not unique. There were grammatical errors all over to the place to the point that I had to try and figure out what the author was saying. There was a lot of unnecessary text that I skimmed over. I didn't like how the author emphasized "black friend" "black maid" etc. And the way that she wrote the "black" lines was super over the top and stereotypical. Overlooking all that the book was just ok.
I love the Michelsons,... Since I already read Charles's story, I know them even better. These men are #men#wh***#, my gotness, I was ready to reach out and slapped Calvin for making such a proposition to Yvonne and her accepting it. Lawwwwd have mercy and the Josie seduction, even though he resisted, he was still turned on. Geeeee!! I was so glad to see her finally grew a "pair", and give him a run for his money. Anyway, that was a great read!!!
This is my first read from Ms Saxton and I'm sure it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the story which had humour and a dash of drama plus the couple's steamy attraction. Calvin was a great possessive, alpha male and Yvonne a successful, independent, beautiful black woman. The chemistry was there from the beginning and I enjoyed their journey to their HEA. I recommend 😊
I love how the author let us into the backgrounds of the characters. It made them more real and relatable. The story was more about the romance and emotion with hints of sex which for me, made it a story I didn’t want to put down. I couldn’t wait to get back to it. I love the writing style...a few grammatical errors but it wasn’t so disruptive to the flow of the story.
Really good! I liked seeing the characters fall for each other. This was honestly more like a 3.75/3.9 novel for me bc it mentioned SOOOO many other women. Nothing that was like crazy but I’m not a big fan of that. But honestly, still recommend reading this one and I’ll be looking at other books by this author!
Interesting twist to a marriage of convenience storyline. I liked the fact that Calvin and Yvonne were an older couple, mid to late thirties so the storyline was age appropriate and really humorous. This book is worth reading just based on the bachelor and bachelorette parties.
I finally find a book this year 2019 that was really good. This story was well put together. The only issue I had I wanted more juicy drama other than I'll to other ppl to read this book.
Lovely easy read. I've read stories like this before but this has a more realistic edge as Yvonne did live in the hood, and revisited her old neighbourhood every two months. Not spoiling the storyline, but this is worth a read decent length story too.
The story line was very entertaining. But it became tedious with all the grammatical and spelling issues. It would have been at least 4 stars if I wasn’t constantly caught off guard by all the stupid mistakes.
The Billionaire 's Proposal:A BWWM Billionaire Romance
I loved this book it was wonderfully written, fun to read and and sexy.I loved reading about Yvonne and Calvin and how their arranged agreement turned into a wonderful love match.
One of the best romance novels I've read. Calvin and Yvonne were a couple that loved each other for a while but didn't want to get hurt if the love wasn't reciprocal. The deal was ill conceived.
This was a very nice book that I happened to stumble upon and I have to say I enjoyed it greatly ,sometimes the best relationships come from people that are friends first .I would recommend this book .
I really loved this book... I laughed and felt for them. I felt invested in their story, the characters were believable and i fell in love with the story. I hope that Toni gets her hea and maybe it will have a British twist. Lol
Errors, yes. A few. But, who cares!? It was a hot romantic read, without a long and PAINfully drawn out misunderstanding. Another hint, for those that need it, that communication is KEY to a good relationship.
One of my first reads by the author and I must say, I was not impressed. The story line was good but could have added a bit more drama in between. Also, it was much too long. It's hard to keep a readers interest when it the days just drag on.....
