This book was recommended to me from a bookie friend after needing a book to read for our December book club. “Read a book to learn something about a religion that differs from mine and is celebrated at Christmas time. “

Well if you enjoyed Dickens, A Christmas Carol, you will enjoy the story of this fictional book as well written in 2018, the setting of Ancient Rome. I learned all about the Roman Festival of Saturnalia, carried on for three days starting December 17th where all the villages shut down and celebrated with food, gaiety, music, the giving of gifts (sigillaria), the hanging of holly and ivy and especially worshipping the god of Saturn. So interesting. In the words of Catus, “the Gods have shown me, io Saturnalia”, known as Happy Saturnalia.

This was a fun idea of a retailing of A Christmas Carol. Set in ancient Rome this is about the meanest man in Rome, and I think you have an idea how the story goes. It's an unique twist on a well known classic and I thought it was very well done. It was very engaging and entertaining to read. Might be a book i read after A Christmas Carol someday
