All King Edward’s Horses Carry Many Brave Fools

— Mnemonic for the letters used at strategic points in the horseback riding arena for dressage tests, as told to me by one of my instructors

Horsey memoirs have been written by trainers, by whisperers, by breeders of thoroughbreds, by women who’ve rediscovered riding after a childhood in the saddle. These books are informative and provide an insider’s point of view on all aspects of the horse business, but what happens when an outsider decides to get a look in? What happens when a grown woman goes pony mad?

After leaving my marriage to an active substance abuser, I was desperate to move forward. Despite hours of Al Anon meetings, and volumes of self-help books, I wasn't convinced I was any closer to the kind of clarity I wanted in order to live a life free from fear and enabling. Completely to my surprise, I found the synthesis of everything — every meeting, every book, every therapeutic hour — on the back of a horse.

From my first lesson — in which I was too terrified to trot — to now, over twelve years later, when I’m participating in showjumping competitions and riding dressage tests, Many Brave Fools describes not only what it is like to take to the saddle in one’s forties, but also how the lessons learned in the arena can be applied to real-life issues.

Decent story but too much dialogue. Difficult at times to work out who's talking...

The main character is held by Jax, who plays as a good girl from my perspective. She was a simple friendly with other people especially the workers who work with her. Jax is a girl who hails from New York and moved to Dublin due to family problems she is forced to move to advertising agencies in Dublin and that is where the start complex journey of life together she called her friend Max.

Jax as a character rather give the event a dispute with her friend named Max. She prefers to remain silent in the event of a problem, silence does not mean she has to cover up mistakes she did, but kept silent to not cause a worsening of the existing complex. Jax plays a more mature than her friends who called Max. Jax is seen more adults in the face of a problem than her friend Max.

Jax is the one who sees a problem that has arisen as a source of ideas for a new beginning. For example, the problem will likely threaten their careers by Max has been seen as a source of ideas to start new programs in their advertising agencies both by Jax. This adds more evidence that Jax a more mature than Max.

Jax is a forgiving and would prefer to give than to fight that does not bring anything good. Jax would rather give up when there is a conflict. Jax is more open to remedy the situation without thought to explain the circumstances that she is really innocent. Jax prefer to let other people feel that they have the right and courage to take risks if she accused guilty of the continued fighting until there finally. For Jax the truth will eventually appear at the end of the story, however, we try to enforce something wrong.

Jax is a very care for others in friendship. She is very concerned with happiness in friendship. She better keep friends feelings than own sense of dir. Life has no meaning if she continues to allow only herself to win because in this world, human lives are shared. So for the life she should have to give in and let the feelings of others to win even though her own heart will not hurt.

I was starting to like the story only after a certain point. At the beginning the story was revolving around Jacinta and Maxine where it was getting to nowhere and then came the heros John Paul and Michael where the story got better. I felt the story could be wrapped up earlier and after some point I lose track of the story. However I really like the two male characters in the story whereby they was potrayed as the patient and persistent which was good when you deal with two hard headed women. Overall its a nice to story to fill the time.

This is was an interesting book. I liked how the relationships between the Max and Jax was so strong, even though they were hiding things from each other. I also liked how the story evolved with their respective love interests. I do think the book could have wrapped up quicker. I also liked how Jax's parents played central roles and the theme of their project is and probably always will be a topic of contention.

I was confused by the names of the main characters and i'm not entirely sure it was lack of sleep lol.

I found that the characters knowing each other so well and picking up each others threads/ideas to be annoying, almost like the author didn't have the words to complete the necessary sentences.

Don't think I'll read it again... Usually like this author though.
