First read this book when I was a teenager, and have revisited it a few times since. Just found it on my shelf again, after not reading it for a couple of decades. I hadn't realized what an influence this book was on my own writing. It is a near-perfect minimalist novel. Beautiful, bewildering, moving episodes that all add up to something very powerful. Reminds me, too, of the early poetry of Mark Strand.
