Enjoyed reading as a child. Written for children, so a quick read for adults. A few adult themes of death, battle and starvation, but mostly spoken of as a distant thing. Overall a good message and fun.
Not going into a huge summary here. I thought the story had a good premise, but the writing was lacking. The descriptions could have been so vibrant and luxurious, but they were left dry and unambitious. The writing was a bit clunky in spots and difficult to read aloud.
I loved this gentle fantasy book as a pre-teen reader. Dragons, kidnappings, armbands, the blue road to heaven, all of it filled a void left by finishing the Chronicles of Narnia.
