Witness Lee (李常受, pinyin Lǐ Chángshòu) was a Chinese Christian preacher associated with the Local Churches movement and the founder of Living Stream Ministry. He was born in the city of Yantai, Shandong Province, China, in 1905, to a Southern Baptist family. He became a Christian in 1925 after hearing the preaching of Peace Wang and later became a close coworker of Watchman Nee. Witness Lee moved to Taiwan in 1949 as the Communists were advancing in mainland China. During the 1950s, his ministry extended throughout Southeast Asia and in 1962 Lee moved to the United States, relocating the base of his ministry to Southern California. He gave his last public conference in February 1997 at the age of 91. Many of Lee's spoken messages have been published in over 400 books and translated into more than fourteen different languages. Lee's major work is Life-study of the Bible, comprising over 25,000 pages of commentary on every book of the Bible from the perspective of the believers' enjoyment and experience of God's divine life in Christ through the Holy Spirit. Lee was also the chief editor of a new translation of the Bible entitled the Recovery Version.

The Bible is a very mysterious book, full of revelation and truth. In the Basic Revelation in the Holy Scriptures, Witness Lee examines seven essential revelations found in the Bible: God's plan, Christ's redemption, the Spirit's application, the Church, the Kingdom, and the New Jerusalem.

As a Christian, I have always felt the need to find the kernel, the heart of the Bible. What is the Bible truly about? If I can answer this question, I would know God's desire and what plan He has for me. Found in this book are these very truths and revelations that are found not only in the New Testament, but also as pictures in the Old Testament. By knowing these essential and basic truths, I have found it easier to align myself with God's purpose and plan. Witness Lee expounds on these truths in a detailed way and through this, by thoroughly understanding these revelations, I can stand firm in my faith. I know what God has done for me, what He is doing for me, and what He will be doing for me. Truly a remarkable discovery and experience.

A recommended read for all those that want to understand the underlying 'themes' in the Bible. A must-read.

The Basic Revelation provides a concise yet thorough view on the outline of God's purpose, his plan, from redemption through to the eternal dwelling of God and Man. The last 4 chapters on the ultimate consummation of God's purpose in the New Jerusalem provide a very thorough introduction to how the entire bible concludes and wraps up this basic revelation as shown in the book of Revelation. Awesome read.

If you want to see a miniature of the entire Bible, this is the right book. There are many Christian books trying to summarize the Bible, but this might be best one, because it's not according to how we as readers feel but completely based on the revelation in the Holy Scripture.

I really appreciate how specific and careful this book is when it comes to the support from the scriptures, which built up the foundation of what the revelation is.
