In their twenties, Rochelle Owens and Diane Wakoski were already crafting memorable poems that bore their distinctive imprints. Even when I don't totally understand what Owens is doing, I get a real kick out of her wordplay, layout, and rhythm; Wakoski is infinitely clearer with plenty of power uniquely her own. I was unfamiliar -- and less taken -- with the other two poets in this slim volume, although I was pleasantly caught off-guard to see the introductory bios were by Amiri Baraka!
