This is a wonderful 'new adult' realistic romance. So refreshing to have kind, respectful, witty and funny male and female leads in Avery and Angela. Enjoyed seeing them move forward in their relationship and Avery's musical career path despite serious challenges. Definitely recommend it. I received an advance review copy of this book, with no obligation to the author. I read this book for my PopSugar 2019 prompt: book written by a musician.
The 2nd book makes you feel every emotion you have. I loved it as much as the 1st book. I love Avery and Angelia and cant wait to start book 3. Robert Kugler you really are a amazing author. Thank you. Please read this series you will appreciate the experience.
On the Road to Here is book two of the Avery & Angela series. I recommend you read The Last Good Day: Book One first to get the most from this one, although it could stand alone. We pick up the story a few months after book one ends. Avery & Angela are reunited after he ends his first semester at the music conservatory and she has finished a round of chemotherapy.
They go through the typical trials of a young couple in love, not the least of which is dealing with relatives during the holidays. At times the story is divinely innocent and sweet, yet the author does not sugar coat the harsh realities that creep into everyone’s life. They face her illness, his insecurities, temper, and ambitions with determination and humor. Will their love carry them through it all?
On the Road to Here is full of music references, guitars, family strife, tender moments and so much more.
Book Two ends with a surprising twist that has left me desperate for Book Three. I highly recommend this story for everyone, but especially for fans of music and love.
In this continuing life story of Avery and Angela we are given much more depth to the main characters as well as the introduction of new family members. This is as much about family dynamics during crisis and the stress of a major holiday as it is about two young people developing their attraction for each other.
The semester has finished and Avery is home for the Christmas holiday. This isn’t the first Christmas Avery and Angela have had together, being best friends for four years, but it is their first as a couple.
Avery has always felt that Angela’s parents didn’t like him much. Now he needs to get to know them better. Things have changed and one of the first is that the two families will spend Christmas day together. Avery will also be going to Angela’s on Christmas Eve where he will be surrounded by all of the extended family.
They may feel sure of each other, but Avery really wants Angela’s family’s approval. It was hard leaving for school as soon as he realized his love for Angela, but leaving when he knew her cancer had returned was the hardest. Still they have stayed in touch daily and one of Avery’s roommates even did telephone concerts for Angela’s chemo group. How is Angela’s health now? Is the cancer still with her or has treatment helped to put her in remission?
Avery has always has a prickly relationship with his mother. How has the months away changed their personal dynamic? How will she deal with immersion into Angela’s family?
This book covers just a brief time but packs in a world of feeling. The ending a definite surprise, which is quite unusual.
It was a wonder book to read, and as in a series, leaves you hanging on what happens next. I can't wait to read the next book. I was glad that it ending with the one thing Angela really wanted to do. This book carries over well from the first one in the series. Fantastically written, allowing the reader to go along with the characters on their journey of love and hurt. Totally recommend this book.
I received this book free and am giving my honest review of it.
You know how you can sometimes feel that the last & upcoming book in a series just couldn't possibly be enough to finish out the story properly, & you're hoping there turns out to be one more book after all? That's the feeling I'm dealing with right now, plus just not wanting the series to end - not for another few more books, anyway. Yes, this story is that good. So much has happened to & for Avery & Angela while he has done his first semester at Boston Conservatory & she has gone through her treatments for this second bout of cancer. Now they're finally back together for the Christmas holiday with each other & their families (a first since they officially became a couple). Are things actually going their way... can they weather the tests that will surely be thrown at them as they work to be together... will their love help them endure? Or are they tempting fate? Again, I highly recommend these books, unreservedly. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from Avery & Angela's story, even for an older reader (62) such as myself! If you haven't already, do yourself a favor & read the first book... and enjoy! I know you will have to get the rest of the series, I just know it. Thank you again, Mr. Kugler, I am truly enjoying the people with & their journeys together. Once more, five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 👍👍👍👍👍
The author captures young love with incredible authenticity. Avery’s anxiety, Angela’s strength, their awkward moments, their hope, and their determination all feel real and relatable. The addition of quirky family drama, surprising twists, and even a bizarre audition keeps the pacing lively and full of heart.
