Indian bird enthusiasts will know of John Henry Dick only if they came from the right generation, the generation for whom there was only one book with all the birds of the region illustrated. This slim book with just plates upon plates of bird illustrations was what many chose to take into the field!

J. H. Dick grew up in great wealth, his mother had been one of the few who got rescued when the Titanic sank. This book gives us such a beautiful view of world travel at a time when things were a lot slower and the central attraction of this book are the beautiful sketches - pen and ink simplicity which capture the essence of what he saw.
