A young woman commits suicide but comes back to miraculous recovery or something else? Two detectives become partners after Internal Affairs clears them. They investigate a string of mysterious deaths with the coroner. The cases are unrelated but the themes of redemption and justice link them. The scarce clues point to the Temple of the Oracle of Redemption and the coroner goes undercover to investigate. He finds an ancient entity who wields a mystical power called Greek fire. Is she benevolent or malevolent? He joins the temple to find out and gets pulled in but also finds love. One detective is hell bent on using her powers or taking her out in an epic clash.
I am a lifelong resident of the eastern PA/Philadelphia area. I also spent three years in the US Army stationed up and down the east coast. I am a fan of anything quirky, off-beat and unexplained. I now have the time to write after retiring from my career as a buyer of hi-tech electronics for a local manufacturer. I need to get these stories out of my head and down on paper or electronic media.
My books to date are all lighthearted fiction-fantasy-romance-science fiction and it is hard to contain them in any particular genre box since they cross over the lines. And that's part of my personality, too. I don't always color between the lines and writing accords a freedom to do as you wish, not as you're told.
This dark fantasy did start with an interesting beginning where one woman commits suicide, but comes back to life. However, that theme of suicide was handled an insensitive fashion. I also wasn't a fan of how it seemed most of the women here needed a man to make decisions for her and there were several comments of women's bodies (“...revealing her pert little breasts to him…” - Kindle location 3325) that I felt uncomfortable reading.
There wasn't much character development or growth with the exception of perhaps one, but even his growth seemed extremely quick and unnatural. The suspense was lacking throughout most of the text unfortunately and there were several errors throughout. When a big reveal happened, I did find that exciting, but then the excitement went fell short right after.
Though definitely an interesting premise, I'm afraid it needs a bit more work.
