From the well-loved French fairy tale, as retold by the Brothers Grimm. “Grandmother, what big eyes you have!” Little Red Riding Hood meets a wolf in the forest. He seems friendly, and he’s interested to hear about her old grandmother. With fun activities after the story, and online audio in both British English and American English.

More like 2.5 for me. A somewhat amusing take on this classic tale, even if it does make it perhaps even more unbelievable than some other versions. Not just wolves, but also witches and wizards lurk in the forest, yet Sarah (which we are told is Little Red Riding Hood's real name) goes alone to check on her grandmother part of the way, and part of the way is accompanied by a woodcutter who claims to be concerned about the grandmother, but who may be a complete stranger. And so on. It's not my favorite version, though the twists on the story are interesting, and it's engaging for children. The traditional morals of the story (obey your mother, and don't be too trusting with strangers) are not emphasized as they are in some. The mother comes across poorly, in my opinion, and Red Riding Hood does the thinking. Red Riding Hood is presented as polite and brave, as she dismisses the adults as worrying too much. At the end of the story it is mentioned that she's "much more careful now." Hopefully that includes obeying her mother. Discussion could be good. There are activities and a bit about the background of the story at the end of the book.
