Alive and Loose in the Ordinary: Stories of the Incarnation

Rate this book
Little sketches of grace to invite you to notice your own soul's companions in your daily life.

With a light touch and warm voice, and just a hint of a Southern accent, Martha Sterne tells the stories of her encounters with Christ - in the supermarket and the beauty parlor, in the garden, the kitchen, and sometimes even church. Sterne shares her gift for storytelling, showing readers that the Incarnation is alive and loose everywhere they look, in the listening ears, kind voices, and loving hearts of people they bump into everywhere. Each essay is followed by reflection questions, making this a lovely volume for group study.

A wonderful bedside book- a story or two a night is perfect for setting the tone of soft, reflective dreaming. Meaning no disrespect to Sterne, she reads like Barbara Brown Taylor lite. Her turns of phrase are not as startling or riveting but the same kind, keen observance of spirit at work permeates this book.

Another reviewer described this author as Barbara Brown Taylor (who I love) light, which I can connect with. A number of short, grounding messages about finding your way in the challenges of today. I enjoyed the short chapters and questions for contemplating - nice way to start or end a week.
