I put my feelings on safety. So I don't go shootin' where your heart be…
Sa’Mia “Mia” King was the princess of her father’s empire. She ain’t have to do nothin’ but chill and spend her daddy’s money. She was the apple of his eye, and all he wanted was for her to get an education and stay as far away from the dope game as possible. But you can’t be raised by a kingpin and have a sweet tooth for the streets. She watched her daddy’s every move and even his back. But when she found herself meetin’ the man she was gonna marry, she lost focus. And that mistake cost her more than she was prepared to lose.
Arkino “Maine” Shane was a young Dallas nigga tryna make ends meet and some quick cash so that he could get outta the hood. But the money was too tempting, and even more tempting was his best friend, Kong’s sister, Sa’Mia. She caught his eye from the jump and made him rewrite his future plans to include her. But when the time came to pick sides, and either be loyal to Kong or Mia, he chose the one that would save Mia’s life.
Kellen “Kong” King was that nigga and the next in line to be the man in Dallas. He was a hotheaded fast talker that did what the hell he wanted. His dad, King, was getting tired of rescuing his son, and decided to teach him a lesson… Nothing is guaranteed.
The King family, feared and revered in Dallas, found themselves on opposite sides and at odds when the tie that binds was no longer around. Maine found himself in the middle of a sibling rivalry that would have him in a tug of war between his heart and his homie. It would be hard to choose sides, but soon, he may have to.
This was a good book... Definitely had a lot going on in here... There was so many twist, turns, secrets and lies... Definitely something that kept my attention... The only problem I had was a few things didnt make sense.. Because in one area Neisha did things with Maine then later she was talking like she wishes she could do things with him... Then another thing is that with one character he was killed but towards the end of the book he is alive... So this was confusing... Other than that this was a good storyline ... Ok so Mia was an only daughter to King and he was the man in the streets... She also had a brother named Kong.. These 2 did not get along at all... But we eventually find out why that is... I hated the way that Kong would talk about Mia and how much he hated her... Little did he know that his right hand man Maine was not feeling all of that at all... I liked Mia I just feel like she just did to much most of the time... She was a little firecracker with a lot of attitude and always trying to fight somebody... But a lot of that could have been handled differently... She was showing her childlike mentality... She wanted to be grown but her actions always proved different... Yes she dealt with a lot when it came to other girls being jealous of her and what she has... So she was out here having to fight... But she was able to hold her ground most of the time... Then these men that she was dealing with was not making it any better... First it was Tank... He really was not good... He was mad at her because she would not give up her virginity to him... So he decided to sleep with the neighborhood property Neisha... Mia finally let's Tank go and finds herself in the company of Maine... They start to explore the feelings that they have been having... But for some reason they can not get it right... Maine is a man and lets his hormones take over to much... Not only that but from the looks of it Maine might have some competition with the new kid at school named Trouble... But little does Maine know... Mia and Trouble have a little more of a connection than he thinks... Kong is out here plotting, Neisha is out here hoing and plotting and everyone else is moving a little funny... People are connected that you would never guess... Secrets are coming out and exposing people with a vengeance... King is at his weakest point right now.. All he needs is Mia and Trouble to put their minds together and get it all figured out and handled... I am still suspicious of Maine and don't really like how he is moving... Wait see Maine is talking about he is doing this for Mia... Man please you are a man... This is all for you... Will Mia and Trouble be able to help King before it is to late...If not who will really be on the throne... Who will be taken out next... How will this all play out.... Well we will have to wait for part 2 to find out...
This is my first read by this author, but definitely not my last. Enjoyed the storyline, plot and these characters and I couldn't put it down. Really good read and held my attention from beginning to end and what a ending. Full of drama, action, lies, secrets and suspense that made it a great read. Loving Maine and Mia together and hopefully, they get it together. Now, I can't wait for Kong, Neisha, Kellen, Twon and Chica to get exactly what they deserve. After that ending, I can't wait to see what happens next. Job well done Joi Miner.
I need part 2 asap! This book held my attention from beginning to end. Mia was too spoiled and needed to realize everything wouldn't go the way she wanted it to. Neisha got on every nerve I had because she was doing too much with how she handled things. Chica really in her feelings but I can't wait to see how she acts once she realizes she's helping the one who truly hurt her. King took everything like a champ and I'm hoping he's able to get out of his current situation before it's too late. Trouble is crazy and fits right in. Maine has been making one dumb decision after the other but hopefully he'll be able to prove to Mia he only wants her and that he is loyal to King as well. Kellz, Kong, Chica, and Neisha all deserve whatever comes their way. Mia better get a grip on everything and focus on helping Trouble so they can come up with a solid plan. The way things are unraveling proves why one has to learn to put their feelings on safety.
Wow. This was an explosive read. This is my first book by Joi Miner but I can say that it certainly will not be my last. My goodness it was attention grabbing from the beginning. I was hanging on to every word. The storyline was awesome and easy to follow. I cannot wait to see how part 2 unfolds.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it definitely won’t be my last. This book was so good. It was filled with just enough drama, secrets and craziness. This is definitely a must read. I love Maine and Mia together. I hope Kong, Kellen, Twon and Neisha gets what they deserve...I can’t wait to read part 2. Joi you did the darn thing with this book...
OMG THIS WAS GOOD I NEED PART 2 ASAP CHIKA KONG TWON NEISHA KELLEN THEY GOT TO GO I HOPE MAINE HAVE ENUFF SINCE TO WRAP IT UP KING NEED TO PULL THREW DOE N EL N THEM TWINS FINTO CAUSE HELL PART 2 ME PLEASE
Man this book had so much drama. The sibling rivalry was off the chain. I can't wait for part 2 to see what happens next cause that ending was like whoa.
I'm not sure what all is going but the suspense is what makes it hard to put this book down. There is definitely a lot of Secrets that haven't been exposed and some jealousy. It's enough going on to make me want to read the next book to get some answer's.
It was ok I liked how it gave us a glimpse of Samia before she bossed up because she was super annoying and bratty in this book like whew chile and in book 1 and 2 was meant to be a stand alone but they were soooooooooooooooo gooooodddddd like it blended so well. You left us hanging from book 2 when mia announced trouble as her brother like all the kids empress like lol I need the rest pleasaeeee like what’s going on with the kids Eli , Anita ???? I’m going need some answers babe I know you going bless us with something good I’ll wait impatiently :)
The plot is so predictable and A blast from the past. I read this story in 2014. This book is so unrealistic and I stopped at 29%. I really wanted to give this a try but the pedophilia stopped me 🥴
King has no loyalty at all. Nisha is a thirsty heffa straight out for self. Now I can't even put into words how much Mia needs to wise and grow up. Trouble is the cool head, and Maine to me just got the short end of the stick all the way around.
