Rate this book
A fable about a boy's coming of age by David LaChapelle (artist and teacher who lives in Juneau, Alaska.) The book is about Aaron who hears A Voice on the Wind calling out his name, and so begins his journey into manhood. Encouraged by his gentle friend Gull, Aaron's search takes him throughout the landscape of his Southeast Alaskan home and deep into the past, the Emerald Isle home of his ancestors. On his journey, Aaron is helped by the animal spirits of his home and by the spirit of the land itself. HIs task is to gather the strength, wisdom and creative energy of the world around him so that he might be ready to make his own instrument and sing his own song. Guided by his elders, Sea Rider and Mask Carver, Aaron must come face to face with his warrior spirit and his creative self before he is ready to pick up his tools and carve his own harp.. His is a journey of courage and triumph as he seeks, as each of us must, to find his place in the world and add his own song to the voice that whispers upon the wind . . .
